This is a lovely, step back in time, country house hotel.
So close to the characterful square of Malton, literally less than 10 minutes walk down the road.
We paid for a feature room for 3 nights, got room 9, four poster, ensuite walk in shower (no bath) which was perfect for us (the War Department does prefer a bath however!).
We like older hotels, slightly worn at the edges, which displays character.
The only disappointment was the food.
We arrived later in the day, visiting our daughter, she was tired after work so decided to eat at the hotel.
Mrs. had a luke warm soup with no depth of flavour, followed by a trio of curry dishes which were lousy to say the least!
My "seared" salmon was overcooked, and no crispy skin.
Needless to say, we didn't eat here again.
We raised our disappointment with the waitress, who said she'd let the manager know.
Withdrew to the small lounge after and waited and waited.
Decided to retire and no contact since. We found many great places to eat in Malton, it's a pity this hotel doesn't get close to what they offer. We would stay again because the rooms are great, but won't be eating in unless things change.
