We were only 7 days in the hotel and had only 3 dives. But the start with the refresher was already great. We saw big turtles and a 1.5 m shark. The assistance by the diveclub team was great nothing was missing. Before the second dive we asked whether it would be possible to see mantaras. But they were deeper than we were allowed to dive. This time we saw then napoleon fishes and other reef fishes. Our last dive was the day before we left. And the diveclub Team had a surprise for us. They took us to the channel where the mantaras come into the lagoon. And we saw one these amazing fishes less than ten meters from us and a lot of other fishes. They took great photos with our equipment and they were helping us wherever possible.
Again thank you to the teamleader and the team at the suboceanic diveclub!
Staying in Fairmont Maldives, we booked some water activities with them. All good and friendly staffs. Sea bobs, kayaking and fishing cruise all went smoothly, specially with kids. Staffs very helpful with small guests and even encourage and help kids to do fishing and then manage to serve fishes for the next day at Raha Market. Totally new concept for us which was worth to try.
The south atoll is a stunning place to dive. Despite the number of dives I have made over the years I still appreciate a professional crew backing me up and Hussain Saanim and his crew gave me superb guidance and showed me a variety of dive sites. Ishmelelaa Beyru had superb, giant fan, rose and plate corals and we had the chance to swim surrounded by a shoal of fish. At Body Hohulha, we saw unbelievably big turtles, one of which had a missing flipper. And of course there are the Mantas, during my stay I saw them three times - one at the cleaning point and on my last dive, 5 were feeding in the Makanda Channel before they floated away into the distance. What a way to go!
This is the only dive centre at Canareef Resort Maldives. It's a well run operation offering a range of dives for different levels.
Early June the place was quiet. There was only myself or two others on the boat for those days I dived. This itself is a good size with plenty of help available. Dive guides were good and knew the area well.
Liked the fact that Nitrox was available as well as prices which for the Maldives were reasonable. Option of having my kit cleaned and stored after a days dive for just over a $1 was especially good value.
If you want a near 100% chance of seeing mantas, sharks and other goodies on your dives but don't want to do a liveaboard this is the place to go.
