I stayed there with my family from 28th December 2018 to 3rd Jan 2019 (early hours). We booked late and could get only sunrise villas (2 of them). Sunrise Villas open into the corals and Sunset Villas into the breach. It is a beautiful resort with good beaches. Cleanliness was great (they cleaned the villas twice a day), food was just good. Overall the staff was very good - front office, restaurant, housekeeping. Iyaas Adhil & Ahmed Yoonus of Reservations were very cooperative - they also gave me a great deal. The New Year function was a let-down and could have been much better. One should take full-board as the alternative is to have food in one another restaurant of Canareef which could be a bit far from the rooms.

The snorkelling coordinated by the resort was good. However, we had some small issues with Sub-Oceanic which organises Scuba Diving as they confirmed that we could do Scuba Diving a day before but the next day mentioned that they were completely booked (their Jet Ski was good, however)

Room tip: Choose Sunrise Villas - You will have access to the beach

Place is nice enough but if you are looking for a high end experience, this is not it. From the bit where you have to drag your own cases from the airport to the speed boat in a big group.
We asked to move villa because the original had so much vegetation outside that the sea view was completely obscured from the terrace.
Took two hours to prepare new room. Disappointing not to be able to swim outside the room. too rough on that side apparently (sunset villa).
Service polite and friendly but not hugely competent.
Beaches ok but not gorgeous, as one associates with Maldives.
We hired some bikes. Had to take first lot back after 5 minutes, because husband’s back tyre completely flat and my front break didn’t work. Pretty ropey bikes and most shaped so that you are leaning over in the racing position. Very uncomfortable if you are used to a normal bike. Eventually managed to get an odd one for me that was more of a normal shape.
Island is quite quiet - it’s January.
Food and wine silly prices and for half board only one restaurant. One other restaurant a la carte, but neither have a high end feel. eg orange table cloths. I ordered a ceaser salad at the a la carte (16 USD) but they were out of ceasers (ofcourse they were).
Would have been nice to have some breakfast snacks on arrival as got up at 3am (from Sri Lanka) and hadn’t eaten all morning.
Struggled to find out what arrival drink was but eventually established it was ice tea. Would have been nice to have a fresh juice.

Stayed there for two weeks. Not worth it. Prices extremely high and they don’t match with quality. Service is very, very, very slow and food is average. A la carte restaurant serves frozen pizza! Food buffet serves same food every single day. Beaches are dirty, a lot of empty bottles etc. I’ve been in Maldives several times before and this hotel was a big disapointment. Avoid!

Just recently returned from an amazing, sundrenched holiday at the Canareef Resort in the Maldives. We were fetched from the airport and transported by speed boat to the island where we were greeted by friendly staff who spoilt us with drinks and an ice cold towel. We were then given a map and told about the various facilities available on the island and then transported to our rooms in their very efficient cabbys. The rooms (Jacuzzi Villas) were spacy and fully air conditioned which provided a very welcome relief from the scorching heat. The rooms had an outside shower and a jacuzzi but please note that there is an extra cost payable should you decide to fill it up (not included in the room's cost). The rooms also come fully equipped with bicycles so you can ride around the island or call one of their cabbys that are available 24/7. Try book a fully inclusive package as you will most certainly save in the long run as the drinks are quite expensive and priced in US dollars. The food and service at the restaurants was exceptional and they offered a nice variety from asian foods to the more traditional western foods. Staff made it a priority to get to know you by name as well as your preferences and towards the end of our stay we were all pretty much on a first name basis. Even the manager of the resort made an effort to explain to us the various cultural dishes from the Maldives and we even had a conversation about the 100 year old eggs that are served in some places as a delicacy! The island has a lot to do so one never gets bored, from the tennis courts, to the gym, cycling and snorkeling. There are also jet skis etc. but these are available at an extra cost and are very pricey! There are a few excursions (also extra cost) and I would recommend the Dolphin Cruise as well as the night time fishing. The guides know the waters well and within minutes we had found the dolphins and had caught some fish! The ocean is crystal clear and the highlight for me was spending a full day snorkeling with my family A truly amazing experience! So for a romantic getaway, or a fun filled holiday with the family, I would certainly recommend Canareef!
