Arrived home last weekend after a fantastic 10 day break at Canareef . Already we are missing the relaxation and the sun of the Maldives .
From the UK it’s a long journey involving three separate flights and a fast speedboat transfer from Gan . However once there and fully recovered from the journey it proved well worth it .
We stayed in a a Sunset villa which leads onto your own little white powdered beach - although not easy to swim in we found the south beach which was perfect . Although quite spread out , bikes and the very efficient buggy service made getting about so easy .
The rooms were spacious and cleaned twice a day . They also benefitted from a very efficient air conditioning - certainly needed with temperatures in the low 30’s .
The food at the hotel is excellent with plenty of variety and the attentive staff cannot do enough to make your meal times very enjoyable .
Although we haven’t visited any other Maldive islands we feel that Canareef is excellent value for money . What really makes the resort special though is the staff who are just brilliant - nothing was ever too much . Unfortunately there are too many to mention - just a very big thank you to all staff and management who made our stay so enjoyable .

Room tip: Choose a sunset villa and book the dolphin trip

We stayed here during October and November 2019 with three children aged between 5 and 10. The island is stunning, whichever room you take you have complete privacy. We stayed in all room types. Sunrise villas are on the outer atoll side so you cant swim here and there is no beach, yet watching the sunrise is a treat and it only takes a few steps to get to the lagoon side beach. Sunset villas are beach side to the lagoon and more practical if you have kids. Jacuzzi rooms are huge, four poster bed, and on lagoon side. All are very practical and pretty. Wifi very good. This place is soo long and narrow, you can hire bikes to explore the 3 miles or just call a beach buggy taxi. Beaches are gorgeous, house reef with 100% visibility. All the usual fish and nice corals. Had a turtle and manta visit our ocean right in front of villa!
Food is so varied and delicious and staff are very friendly and helpful. The in house singing duo at the disco are lovely and my daughters danced the night away with them. Water sports include banana, sup, jet ski etc and they are a fab team. Diving school offering some of the best dives in Maldives including 5 metre resident manta and the biggest shipwreck in Maldives. Olympic swimming pool and another, 2 bars and a beach bar. Gym, spa, tennis courts, kids club. This is a place where you can be as active or chilled as you like. Just a 15 minute speedboat away are four local islands where you must go and feel the love of the maldivians. Loved every minute of being on this paradise!
Pina colada excellence from the fab barmen!
Thank you Canareef and see you soon.

My wife and i spent 2 weeks (January / February 2020) in this wonderful island (all inclusive, Jacuzzi Villa on the sunset side). In Male we were greeted by a representative from Canareef who helped us check-in for the domestic flight to Gan (starting 50 minutes after we had left the international airport in Male), which is 80 minutes away from Male directly via a propeller plane.
In Gan waited another representative and we were transported via buggy to a jetty for a great 20 minute speedboat ride over to the island (Herathera). While we drank our welcome drink and were introduced to the island and talked through all the details by a member of staff our luggage was brought to our villa.
The resort makes up about 70% of the island, the other 30% is inhabited by the local community. It is separated by a small bridge, but you can visit the local community.

All Inclusive: This included breakfast from 7 – 09.30 (heavenly omelet), lunch from 12 – 14.30 and dinner from 19.30 to 21.30 as buffet in Kilhi restaurant and drinks throughout the stay. We both were very pleased with the food they offered. There was always fresh fish, meat and salad and clearly labelled vegetarian options. They made curries from all sorts of vegetables, fish and chicken and beef. All dishes tasted very good, some even extraordinary. We have to mention one cook especially: Shohel. When he was not too busy he asked you for special wishes and ideas and the next day you got it served in a way sometimes better than your expectations.
Meeraa restaurant and bar: we enjoyed one dinner in Meeraa, where they serve fantastic asian food. If you have AI you pay 20 % less; so for starter and main dish and 2 bottles of wine we payed only 140 $ and my wife had her best salmon ever!!!

Service: in general all the staff was very, very good, quick, attentive, polite, friendly, speaking english very well. Also the management took care of us very much. Especially to mention here we have our two waiters Asan and Ameez. With them we had so much fun and got friends.

wine: the AI – wine (only 1 white, only 1 red) was ok. In the menu they have a good red and white wine from spain (24 $), the rest, may be 20 to 25 red and white wines, costs 40 to 80 $, sparkling wine beginning with 40 $, Champain more than 120 $.
Drinks: The AI - drink options were ok, including beer. For 7 $ e.g. you get original Bacardi for your Cuba libre.

Rooms: fantastic. Large rooms (98 sq meter), wonderful colours, big comfy beds, bathrobes, open shower, air conditioning working perfectly, a 20 yard walk to the beach, cleaned twice a day. A little bit we were disappointed with the in-room drink options. These included several Nescafe sachets, a couple of herbal options and small sachets of milk. Mini-bar is not included in AI and has normal maledivian prices. For his very good, lovingly work we want to mention Abu, our housekeeping – man. He was very attentive, reliable, friendly and gave us plenty of water (1.5 litre bottles).

Beach: marvellous – as you imagine the Maledives. As the island is part of an atoll the sunset side (facing inwards) has a calm and settled sea but the sunrise side (facing outwards) is much rougher. Water is very warm (28 – 29 centigrade), so you can stay in the sea as long as you want.

Island: This is a long and thin island and our villa was approx 2,5 km away from the buffet area, but belonging to the villa we had two bicycles. So you can enjoy biking there each day or order a buggy which usually turnes up within 5 minutes.
Entertainment: The island has many watersports options and we had a trip to see dolphins included in our booking by secret escapes. This was a spectacular experience and we saw more than 100 dolphins in a 90 minute trip.
The resort has 2 bars, the bigger one near the buffet restaurant with a really good live band and billard tables. W-lan in the villas is free, but slow.
Weather: sunshine and hot, sometimes cloudy and more enjoyable, two short heavy downpours during dinner.

Resumee:
There are resorts with more luxury, but there is no better price - performance – ratio than in Canareef. Therefore the day before departure we went to the reservation manager speaking with him about the price for our vacation next year! So we are already counting the days til our return!

Room tip: Jacuzzi villas are bigger and have the better beach and calmer sea

Dear VolkerD595,

We would like to thank you for writing such an extensive review on Tripadvisor concerning your stay at Canareef Resort Maldives.

Yes, we are connected to a local Island via a bridge but the local island is not part of the resort.

We are happy that you have found our food of good quality and taste both in the Kilhi Restaurant and the Meera Bar. We are trying to offer more action stations with food cooked on the spot and cater for more diverse requirements. Thank you for your comment on Shohel, Asan and Ameez from the Kilhi Restaurant and Abu from Housekeeping, we will make sure that they are informed of your comments.

Thank you for your comments on our Drinks, Rooms, Beaches and the Island in general. We are happy that you enjoyed our Dolphin Tour but the commendation belongs to all the Dolphins who played their part in entertaining you.

Great to know that you have already booked with us for your vacation next year and we hope to be able to welcome you again at Canareef Resort Maldives. Again thank you for being our guest.

We stayed 18 nights in January with two kid, three and two years old.
Canareef has some 3 star features (i.e. quality of room furniture, kids klub, local beach bar, activities), some 4 star features (food, local drinks, cleanliness) and some five star properties (pools, diving, scenery, Spa)
All together I would say it is a 3,5 star resort.
The resort is big, you can get around with bikes or with the well-organized buggy service.
Safe for the kids, (some mosquitos though) and not overbooked.

Transfer: Flowless transfer from Male (flight 75 min + speedboat 15 min).
Check in / check out: kind, fast.
Room: Rustic, spacious, nice lights, clean, perfectly working AC and jacuzzi. Nice view to the lagoon, sandy shore at 10 meters.
Food: in general very good, two restaurant working. Large variety (fish/lamb/chicken/veal), Italian pasta also. Breakfast has less selection, but tasty.
Service: smiling locals, relaxed, however sometimes not very proactive - hey, you can ask anyway what you want, don't you? ;-)
Diving: one of the best site in my diving history. Check out their homepage. Thanks for the great care Noemi and Tharaf!!!
Bars: two bars working, Meera and Dhoni, standard drinks (5-9 USD) and cocktails (7-12 USD), if you intend to have several per day, consider all-inclusive package. If you fancy French or other selected wines, be prepared to higher than usual prices. Live music in Dhoni by 19:00.
Spa: Balinese spa, professional level.
Pools: they are at Dhoni and Meera bars, pristine clean, child pool at Dhoni bar, towels available.
Kids club: Basically not working, but they open it for you, if you ask for. It has an AC playroom and an playground in the garden.
Local Beach: this part of the lagoon side is cleaned regularly. The little bar at the beach only serves soft drinks and beer.
Activities: if you do not dive and do not like the Spa, there is not much to do. Dolphin cruise and fishing were popular among other guests. We spent the time with diving, spa, and the rest in the pools or on our sandy beach in front of the villa.
Very relaxing, basically you only see some other guests at the meal occasions.
Room service: not tried

I think it is good value for money (4th resort visited in Maldives), but if you seek luxury service or party hard every night, you shall check 5 star resorts.

Room tip: Take lagoon side (west side of the resort)
