We needed somewhere to stay within reach of Blenheim Palace in Woodstock. Did not fancy Woodstock hotel prices and the facy that there is NOWHERE to park there anyway. So Charlbury which is about 7 miles away seemed ideal.
It is a quiet Cotswold village, but has at least 4 pubs and a Co-op.
The Bell is what you would expect. A basic country pub with rooms to the rear in a purpose built stone block. Our room (15) was clean and tidy, but I have to agree with others that the hot water was a bit hit and miss, but eventually it arrived at the shower head. We did not have an evening meal there, but the English breakfast was fine with local sausages which were the best I have had in a long time. All in all the hotel served it's purpose well and is located in a lovely area.

Lovely staff and whole place well kept and welcoming. Dinner was good and freshly cooked and breakfast was delicious. Bedroom was spacious and clean with lovely bathroom, Bed was a bit uncomfortable and very creaky. Lovely place to stop for a couple of nights in a beautiful part of England

We liked the 'olde worlde' look of The Bell Inn online and were not disappointed. Great thick stone walls and massive ceiling beams abound in the characterful 1700-built hotel. Our room was stunning, very spacious, tastefully decorated with an amazingly large bathroom. Our three nights were very comfortable, good bed, plenty of hot water for the double-sized shower, plus a window area to sit and read while the sparrows chirped in the syringa just outside. Breakfasts are well cooked and tasty, a choice of cereals, toast and condiments and/or a full English with the most delicious bacon and sausages. We had several other meals too, all excellent with fresh, locally-sourced ingredients. The Sunday roast was a highlight. A good range of beers, wines and other drinks, friendly staff and a mix of local and visiting patrons, made the evenings pass very pleasantly. Right in the heart of the town, the bus stops at the door and the train. Is a pleasant walk down the hill and through the lovely old church yard. Highly recommended to all, we would stay again for sure.

A lovely looking property in a quaint village in the Cotswolds. We stayed here as a party of 14 on a car Rally. The hotel was very accommodating, meeting our needs for parking and meal times including early breakfast. The rooms were comfortable a clean and the food was good pub grub and good value. If I was in the area I would visit again.

Well located in centre of a beautiful Cotswolds village, the Bell features stone floors, well decorated bar, dining and relaxing rooms and a large, well furnished outside space facing onto countryside. Good, reasonably priced food and charming and friendly management and staff and a comfortable room completed a relaxing visit. Would recommend.

Room Tip: Stairs only, no lifts.
