Restaurant good

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 18 Jul 2018via mobile
I stayed next door at the Aura Residence but visited the Avalon restaurant every day. It has Western and Asian food options on the menu and the baguettes are really good. Great red curry! Staff speak English and are helpful with advice.

I often stay here when I travel to Savannakhet for work. The hotel is small, cosy and very friendly - The bonus point is it is very clean.

The hotel's small restaurant that serve great coffee and salad/light meal at very reasonable prices. There are other options for foods nearby within walking distance, try the night market if you really want to have a local experience

I will definitely come back here again

We stayed one night and it was comfortable, clean and convenient. The staff were sweet and didn’t speak a great deal of English, but no matter. The breakfast was also pretty awesome. Good value for the money and a decent location.

Only 1 night, but appreciated the newness (opened in November, 2017). Nice breakfast included, not buffet. Even had some English speaking stations on television.
On the downside was could not check-in until after 2:00 PM, which is often the standard check-in time, but did not see this on website or booking site, so killed two hours with lunch and street hiking. Was cold at night, needed a second blanket and when I asked at front desk about 7;00 PM they hustled me up one in a minute, no extra charge. Staff friendly, took kip, dollars or baht. The Residence Aura (sp?) with the adjoining wall was also new, but according to street talk different owners. There was a small restaurant in the second one. Restaurant for Avalon about 20 meters away, just past the Avalon parking lot. I wasn't looking for "cheap," this one was a jewel for the $25.00 USD.... There was a conflicting use/non-use of shoes in the lobby and up to the room, with slippers available right near the front door. Staff were shoeless, as were some tourists. No one enforced wearing or not wearing shoes, but it seemed best choice was to leave shoes near the entrance door and "do as the locals." Will use Avalon again upon a return trip.

This a good, clean budget hotel, situated very close to the main bus station and a 10 minute walk from the Thai consulate.
We were given a room in the annex, which is a French colonial style house next to the main hotel. The history of the building showing photographs of the previous occupants were on display. The room was large with high ceilings, well furnished; good wifi, good aircon and very clean. The bed was comfortable queen sized. The bathroom was good , with powerful hot water shower. - clean towels, soaps and shampoo provided.
There was a small restaurant providing a good selection of local and western style food. They also sold Laos beer and very good coffee. There is an excellent Laos sandwich stall across the street selling baguettes which are delicious.
The only down side was the distance to the riverside and downtown areas of the town, with restaurants, bars and other attractions. Tuk-tuks were readily available, but are not metered and required a price haggle every time one needed to go and return to anywhere .
Summary - ideal for a visa run, but the area is quiet at night and a distance from any night life.

Room tip: Ask for a room in the annex

Having a need to go to Savannakhet, Laos to refresh my Thai visa, I looked at Savannakhet for a place close to the Royal Thai Consulate. Having chosen the Avalon Residence as it was said to be on the same road, I discovered on arrival that it isn't on the same road and is a 20-minute walk to the consulate. That aside, the property is easily accessible and very clean, there is an unwritten policy for guest to remove their shoes at the door, I like it!

Some staff speak excellent English, while the rest seem not to bother, all are extremely friendly and helpful. The breakfast is at the Coffee@Avalon and is good, eventually I settled on the 'Oriental', which is a local Baguette filled with scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage and various salad veggies, very filling and very nice. This comes with coffee or tea, coffee is the local variety (similar to Vietnamese), I don't take sugar or milk and the coffee is a bit strong and grainy, I like it! There is a small bar as part of the building, opens at 17:00hrs, however, drinks are available at any time of the day via the reception desk, I like it! It is all very reasonably priced and a good choice when a trip to Savannakhet is needed. I will definitely chose Avalon Residence again.

Room tip: Avoid the top floor as it gets very hot!
