From the minute we arrived to the last moments in Bali we were in heaven! The staff and management at Alila Villas make us feel so welcomed and relaxed. We booked 8 nights at this resort and we loved every moment. The villas are very spacious, comfortable, & private. You always have more fresh fruit that is all delicious and great to snack on while lounging around the villa on a lazy day.

The food at both restaurants is wonderful. Breakfast is always at the main restaurant Cire where you will likely be provided a table that looks out over the cliffside out onto the ocean. The menu options change daily and you can eat whatever you want off the menu and as much as you want (including beverages) for approx $25/person. Don't be surprised when the staff know your names before you know theirs. We ate primarily at the Bali-Indo restaurant Warung (lunch & dinner) - we tried almost everything on the menu and loved it all.

So we decided to take the hike down the stairs to the private beach of the resort. If you haven't read already it's a lot of stairs (600+) and it's not a swimming beach - more of a scenic beautiful beach (which is sandy) surrounded by lots of amazing tide pools. Yes it is absolutely beautiful BUT I'm not sure that I'd do it again. The stairs are in great shape but it's a long way down and an even further way back up - be sure you're in good shape with no heart issues before taking the challenge of that hike. Bring your camera and a bottle of water - wouldn't bother with a towel as it's just one more thing to carry.

They will help you - if not encourage you - to get out and explore Bali. They offer excursion packages through the resort but also will assist you in booking any other trips you might want to take. They even helped us hire a private car & driver for a day which is more flexible & affordable than booking one of the resorts cars.

Out of the resort offered packages we chose the half day with the chef (Stephan) - we had originally booked the full day but after talking with Stephan the night prior we all agreed that the half day was probably best - and it was. You not only get to go see the local markets but you also get brought to a very cool surf beach, learn a few Bali-Indo dishes (recipes are provided), and you finish it off with a lots of great food. We were tired and happy to retreat to our villa to chill by the pool for few hours before coming back down for dinner.

If you want to have a special dinner served in the privacy of your villa you can speak with Stephan. He created a customized menu for my birthday which was served in our room which was delicious. They brought up a beautiful flower arrangement, candles, etc. Once we had finished eating and were sipping the last bits of our wine the staff came in singing happy birthday with the most amazing chocolate cake that I've ever tasted.

We can't say enough about how amazing staff and the food is at Alila. This resort is perfect if you're looking to relax. However, if you're looking to be more in the center of things (shopping, clubs, etc..) this may not be the right resort for you as it is a bit of a drive from most of the activities within Bali. It's not difficult to hire a private car that can take you to all of the locations and activities that you could ever want to do but some of the more active locations in Bali such as Kuta are about an hour driving time away.

Other activities you might enjoy in Bali: Elephant Park, Uluwatu Temple (monkeys), White Water Rafting, sunset drinks at Ku De Ta (Kuta), & shopping. If you do the white water rafting - be warned - it's an absolute blast and not difficult rapids but there are lots of stairs down and back up.

Stayed 3 nights at this great villa resort, everything was great during our stay besides a couple of hiccups which the resort has more than made up for it. The staff were all great - they made it a point to remember the guests names (at least me and my partner's!) as well as what we ordered at breakfast the day before! The spa experience was great too and we had a spa treatment everyday we were there.

The pictures of the cabanas have been featured in many magazines around the world, so we were really looking forward to this amazing resort. And we were not disappointed. It was breathtaking. The design was unique and simply beautiful. We loved the openness of the villa. Service was good, food was REALLY good. Location is not bad, compared to Alila Soori, only about 1/2 hour from touristy area. Only one thing I could complain about was 2 dirty towels. But I got over it really quickly. Although quite expensive, I'd come back whenever I could.

My husband & I had an enjoyable 4 nite stay at the sister hotel, Alila Soori but decided to change to Uluwatu for 4 nites instead of just 2. It doesn't have the steps away beach access like Soori but Alila Uluwatu has such an architecturally pleasing and stunning setting. This is our 7th trip to Bali but first stays at Alila hotels...Service is much more meticulous & superior here compared to Soori ..Far surpasses our Banyan Tree Phuket experience as well as The Samaya (Bali)...

Food at Cire is very good, we ordered roast beef a day in advance but had half left over and they made us delicious sandwiches out of it for us the next day for lunch. Good selections during breakfast(though I think the local food may be better at Soori) and there re healthy menu options too which is a change of fresh air when u've been away from home for more than a week..

If indulgence/comfort/ease is what u're after, Alila Villa Uluwatu is your choice. Good selections of cocktails at The Wurung. Butler service is great here without being intrusive, good housekeeping (clean glasses cos they were kind of dubious at Soori)...Abundant clean towels and bottled water provided..

Quite private villas but not the most private that we've stayed at..They did consciously try to space out the allocation of guests since occupancy rate is less than 70%. The outdoor shower is fantastic , the indoor one tends to cause spillage all over the bathroom flooring...but the prior is much more enjoyable anyway..

The GM, Sean is a very dedicated and hardworking guy, trying to ensure everyone's experience at his property a positive one. We would love to stay there again.

This hotel is by and large fantastic for those who want to stay somewhere absolutely beautiful that is away from everything. however, it still has some glitchy boutique hotel elements that need to improve. The whole time I stayed there the internet was playing up and the router would reset itself every 5 minutes - this is not acceptable in a four star hotel, let alone a five star one. The management did not fix this over the week I was there. If this hotel really wants to charge a rack rate of $750 a night then this stuff cannot happen: it completely alienates the kind of traveller that needs to stay in reliable contact with work.
