We have just returned from a trip to Sandals Grande where we spent 10 days with 12 of our closest family for our wedding. It was simply perfect!

The staff cannot do enough for you - we had a concierge room and they went out of their way to stock our fridge with drinks we wanted (including champagne daily). The concierge hike we took part in to Pigeon Island was great - the tour guide was well-informed and it ended in a surprise which was better than the hike!! Definitely worthwhile. Our concierge booked all our restaurants for us which we had no problem getting into when we wanted even with large bookings. The wedding planning department were outstanding - our wedding was flawless and completely stress free. All the little touches made it even more magical.

The restaurants are great - no where near the usual all-inclusive rubbish you get fed in some places. We mainly ate breakfast in the buffet as it's so much quicker than Toscaninis. However, for a treat (especially for my hubby who loved the steak!) we went to Toscaninis - the food was noticeably better than the buffet but it was too slow service to sit in everyday. It also seemed to be better suited to the older guests who maybe want to chill out more! Kimonos at La Toc and the La Toc restaurant were my favourite meals. Delicious and definitely worth the shuttle bus over. Barefoot was nice and the buffet was a good place for lunch with a good variety of options which changed daily.

The whole grounds and pools are immaculate. There are some people who wander up the beach but I didn't find them a problem at all. The lilos in the sea are great fun! The main pool is a bit of a party pool which as a group of young adults we loved but was a bit too loud for the older generation. We sat drinking cocktails in the hot tub every evening as the sunset - it couldn't get any better. If you prefer a quieter area, then go to the lovers pool - this was almost silent it was so peaceful and even though it's further from the bar, the sun loungers and nicer and the lovely 'drinks on wheels' lady regularly pops down to top up your glasses.

The only thing that annoyed me was that we were on a ground floor room (honeymoon swim up) and every morning the staff would clatter down the hall way quite early (e.g. 7am) with trolleys and they would chat and sing! I don't mind them being happy (which they certainly are) but when you want some sleep, it gets a bit irritating. My sister was on the 2nd floor and she had none of this so something just to bear in mind.

TIPS:
- Definitely take the boat trip - we took the Jo Knows tour from Halycon and it was the best day we had. So much fun. The snorkelling is amazing, the mud bath boiling but great fun, and the whole atmosphere is like a big party - the speed boat was half the fun (although if you get sea sick maybe take a rain check!)

- Go to the other Sandals to eat

- Take full advantage of all the watersports - we took a hobie cat out nearly everyday and went on the snorkel trips.

PERFECT! We'll be definitely going back to another Sandals

Room Tip: Better suited to younger adults

What a fabulous vacation. This is the most beautiful island i have ever seen. (i lived in Hawaii for four years). This vaction at Sandals Grande St. Lucia is the best value for the money. I will try to break down the trip in the following:

Transportation: Travel time was long, but worth it. We had a 6am flight out of Chicago. We flew into Atlanta with a 45 min. lay-over, then a 4 and a half hour flight to St. Lucia. We got to the island around 3:30 pm. We then had a 2 hour shuttle to the resort. By the time we got to our room it was time for dinner. Be ready for 11 plus hours of travel if you are coming from the north/ midwest.

Accomodations: Our room was great. Ground floor garden view walk-out with a patio. We loved this room, it was quiet, and gave a sense of having more space than a upper level room. The room was clean and very well decorated. Our room was cleaned every day between 10 am and 1 pm, and our fridge restocked every day. Also they turned down our bed and put flowers all over. (nice touch) We had continental breakfast on patio every morning. It was a great time to map out our day, have coffee and get ready. We did not upgrade to conciere or butler and found we really didn't need to. I feel the upgrade would have been a waste of money. One thing though, you need to get your reservations on the first morning for those places that require it or you wont be able to get in. I disscuss further in the food section below.

The Resort and Staff: I could not believe how nice everyone was. Maintenance guys would stop and ask how you were. The entire staff were always asking how you were and if they could do anything for you. Bartenders were great, always cheerful and polite. My wife and i did a candlelite dinner on the beach and made a very good friend of our server/waitress. Her name was Francisca, we absolutely loved her and are now pen pals.
The resort is great. The location is the best on the island with a wonderful bay on one side and ocean on the other. The resort was clean and very well updated. The continuing maintenance was perfect. It looked like they were in constant upkeep. The beach was fabulous and had a nice area just outside the property to hike up to an old fort and lookout. Also lots to do at resort, i.e. watersports, activities at pool, or lounging at beach.

Food:
The food at the resort was excellent! You have options from pizza and burgers to a wonderfully prepared beef loin filet. We ate at the Italian resaurant (Tuscanini's) once and it was pretty good but i preferred barefoot by the beach. The service at all places was great. We had no problems getting drinks. Whether we were at the swim-up bar or up at the lobby the booze flow was perfect. One thing I liked about this resort was that if you want a bottle of champane you just ask for it and they give it to you. We did this a couple of times in the evening. I got tired of getting one glass at a time and the champane was going down too fast so I started getting bottles. The street parties and cultural bbq beach parties are a must do. They serve food and it is wonderful. Remember, make your reservations early if you plan on eating at the Italian place or Gordon's. If you are like us, we didnt really want to be tied to a schedule and we found it was no problem getting seated at the other places and the food was excellent at the no reservation places anyway.

Tours/Activities:
We did the Simon Says tour on our third day. this tour is great. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to see more of the island from a boat. We took a nice boat ride down the west side of island with little detours into bays and areas of interest. We stopped at a fish refuge for an hour of snorkelling that was very nice. The boat guys were pleasant and nice and had lots of beverages for us. We then went to Soufere (not spelled correctly) and got in vans for a trip to volcano and mineral spring waterfall. The volcano was neat with a mud bath and lots of photo ops. we then had luch at Simons house. The food was excellent local stuff. Then we went back to boat and back to Sandals. This trip was 9am to 3pm. so plan for the whole day as we were pretty wiped out when we got back.
We also did a snorkelling excursion. This was very nice, only about an hour and half. You go on dive boat to a great location and guild stays out with you pointing out things of interest. Our friends did the horseback riding and said it was great and well worth it. My wife and i also did a couples massage on the beach in the morning (9am). This was unbelievable. The red lane spa does it right. We also did a candlelite dinner on the beach as i discussed earlier. This was only a little more cost than going to Gordon's, i would do the dinner on beach if i had to choose between the two. We also recommend the sunset cruise, we had way too much fun, lots and lots of rum punch and had to carry my wife to room when we got back. We did several other activities too many to continue to write about.

Wedding: Our friends decided to crash our vacation and got married while at Sandals. The wedding was beautiful. Very well organized by the staff. The location was perfect. The pictures turned out wonderful.

Summary:
This trip really changed my whole view of the caribbean. I want to go back. We were so impressed with Sandals and the Caribbean that we booked next year's trip to Sandals Grande Antigua. I am also going to book a fall getaway to Sandals Montego Bay, Jamaica.

Thank you Sandals

The best Sandals hotel out of the 3 in St. Lucia! This is the place to stay if you want a very romantic and quiet vacation. Everyone is so friendly and nice at this hotel and St. Lucia!
Foodwise - GORDONS and TOSCANINI are Excellent! Bayside is good too! The other restaurants are okay (josephines, barefoot by the sea, etc). Beware, not a lot of restaurants to choose from (breakfast, lunch).
Hewanorra airport to the hotel takes about an hour and a half drive, we opted for the private car service and found it more comfortable and better service if you can afford it. Kudos to the drivers, excellent tour guides and very friendly!
The rooms were okay, wood furnishings not modern. Not big and not too small.
Not too many land adventures at this time due to the hurricane in St. Lucia, some roads to the hotel are being constructed but no traffic.
We had a wonderful experience at this hotel, it was our first time there and it's HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Wow!

My wife and I expected our £5,000 holiday to be extra special, but were so disappointed that the place was more like Club 18-30! Booming music for most of every daylight hour meant heaven for the many young guests around the central pool, but was far from what we anticipated. Furthermore, food quality was only so-so, certainly no evidence of Fine Dining here. The staff were excellent however, and their helpfulness was unbounded. The holiday we spent earlier in 2011 at Hurghada provided far better standards in every aspect, and was less than half the price. Our advice is to look closer to home. There are many hotels and resorts better than this!!

My wife and I just returned from a week's vacation at the Sandals Grande St. Lucian. Although we had 5 days of rain and clouds and not a single spectacular sunset, it was the best holiday of our lives. The management and concierge staff went well beyond our expectations to ensure our needs were exceeded and, the service staff were very friendly, attentive and professional. We had a choice of over 20 restaurants amongst the 3 Sandals resorts and took advantage of most of them, to our culinary delight. The entertainment at the resort was first-rate and we thoroughly enjoyed the Simon Says Speed Boat Tour. We were so impressed by our first Sandals luxury-included experience that we have already booked to return to the Grande in February 2012 and, we are considering a family holiday the following year at Beaches Turks & Caicos.
