First class food in a relaxed atmosphere. Although only two of us in the restaurant for lunch we had first class service from the staff who were friendly and helpful. The first course was accompanied by a superb fish sauce excellent well done to the chef for the local pork and lamb dishes. Difficult to find from the M3 but well worth the effort

I have never had an afternoon tea in a hotel before, so obviously looking forward to celebrating my husband's 50th with our growing up and grown up kids and their partners with a special treat.
First the plus points: Oakley Hall Hotel is set in beautiful grounds with views of fields and gentle hills, and even on a really misty, rainy day it was a lovely setting. The hotel is a mix of old and tastefully renovated new. The menu has a choice of traditional afternoon tea, including options for gluten or dairy free and a champagne afternoon tea, all reasonably priced. The choice of teas and other hot beverages is wide. They brought us a little birthday cake and candle at the end of tea which was very nice!
Not so good: Service was barely average. The young people serving were polite, well turned out but a little chaotic. We ordered a mix of teas, coffees and hot choc and also requested a mocha with soya milk and some skimmed milk for my tea. The skimmed milk arrived hot (presumably for one of the coffees) and when we asked for skimmed milk for the tea this was met with bemused looks. The mocha was clearly made with normal milk, the soya milk was in a jug on the side, and my daughter was unwell as a result. The menu offers unlimited tea, yet this was never offered, and when we asked this caused yet more confusion. The food itself was a bit odd too. Too few sandwiches, 3 small cakes each an,d I think, around 50 mini scones! The sandwiches were fine; the cakes I thought were disappointing (not traditional, but not special enough) and far too many scones. We were able to bring the leftovers home which was good.
Finally at the end there was no-one to get our coats and we ended up rummaging in a cupboard! These are minor points but spoilt what was an expensive (7 of us) and special occasion.

They have recently opened a new restaurant at this hotel, with a new bar area adjoining. It is all extremely nice. The staff were very attentive and the food was excellent. We went for lunch on a Monday and we really enjoyed it. Well done to the team.

Hotel is lovely. However the new glasshouse restaurant was a let down. Had three courses all very average. Nothing amazing and for £100 for 2 with house wine it was v overpriced. Service great. Food was fine but just no wow factor as it was when we visited in 2010.
