We arrived late in the afternoon and were met on time by Alison, our charming host. She proved to be very knowledgable about the local area and its history and customs and gave us excellent suggestions. Everything we needed for a great week's vacation in an authentic Tuscan hill village was provided. There's even a selection of useful guidebooks to the area in the villa. We loved the food and wine of the area available in the village (which is just across the little bridge) and really enjoyed a couple of local festivals on that week (walking distance) - the cherry festival and the Notte Bianca (see photo). The latter had all the town out enjoying themselves throughout the night as shops stayed open. The local shops sell delicious cheeses and meats (see spread in photo) and fruit and vegetables. There are also some good restaurants nearby. But mainly we enjoyed cooking our own finds and relaxing with a wine on the private terrace and in the garden. Visits to the sanctuary of La Verna, a beautiful and peaceful sanctuary (see photo) and cultural trips to Arezzo, Anghiari, San Sepolchro and the lovely medieval town of Poppi rounded out the experience, although we were always a bit reluctant to leave the terrace! I hope to go back next year.

My husband and daughters 8 & 11 and I arrived at the village by car.
We parked and headed up the cobbled stone path to open the beautiful black garden gate. I decided then we had been given our own private Eden.
When we closed the gate we had our own personal path leading to the open deck of the cottage over looking the village where we would have many a meal after a day's adventures over the next week.
This stone cottage lays majestically between the village bells & the castle bells. I loved every moment of the bells going. In Australia I do not live near church bells so i knew I was on holiday.
Each room has its own quaint feel & i loved the kitchen., this place is not for the 5 star hotel person although I love that too, this is for those who want to experience the culture & really feel they are a part of the town.
The big dining room was great to dress and the 4 of us would buy from the village and eat our fresh local produce.
The central court in town sells divine pizzas & the upstairs restaurant was wonderful!
Alison made us feel welcome and made sure every thing was ready on our arrival.
Poppi, near by, is truly beautiful and amazing at night to walk around, great to time it with a wine festival or another occasion, to see the streets lit up.
My husband wanted to explore Tuscany which meant leaving our haven, however, there was so much to see within 30 k in any direction I did not feel the need, but if one must leave the cottage, at least you know you will be back that evening to savour the view and the mountain air.
