Popped in to have a look, excellent facility for schoolchildren, guides, brownies, scouts, cadet force etc. Very informative for Colditz castle. Close to Leipzig and the countryside. Definately worth a trip if you are a youth leader.

Nice location, good size room, English spoken, games rooms with pool, table tennis, fussball , etc. As a family of four we would stay again. It was pretty economical and reception sells beer. Breakfast is basic and we found a nice local restaurant for the evening. It's a bit off the beaten track and that's what we wanted.

Do the tour round the castle even our preteens enjoyed it!

I booked a family room for husband and 11 year old son for a one night stay, before we did the Colditz Castle tour the following morning. The hostel and our room was spotlessly clean. The rooms are very basic (3 single beds, small table and stools) and there isn't anywhere to store (cold) food. We arrived on a Sunday so we pretty much had the hostel to ourselves. The hostel kitchen wasn't open that evening (it was being renovated so I'm not sure whether it's always not open on Sundays or was only not open because of the renovations) but we were directed to a nearby restaurant / beer garden a few minutes walk away from the hostel where we enjoyed a good local meal. If you're a Colditz Castle fan and the idea of being locked in the castle grounds at 10pm appeals to you, then this is a place you need to stay!

Just one over night stop for a group of 6. The place looks wonderful from the outside and is very clean on the inside. We were in a six person room consisting of three bunks, shower room and toilet. More than adequate and the staff were excellent. Make your own beds when you arrive and we used the bed sheets to escape from the 3rd floor in the morning, but only after a very large breakfast. Well worth a visit. We were told the guided tour is worth it too.

Well where do I start. My wife and I had been on a luxury cruise on the Celebrity Constrllation around the wetern Med. As we had driven to Venice to start and finish point of the cruise I asked her if she would like to go somewhere totally different on the way home. So having driven up into Germany we forked right at Munich where we overnighted. We arrived at Colditz at lunchtime. Amazing sigth, perch on a massive hil it lived up to expectations. We found the main entrance and booked in. Having seen all about the tour on there website we joined. Thats where I am going to stop. What followed was the most fasinating two and a half hours imaginable.

The accomodation is what you would expect only much, much better from a YHA. a room for five. Clean and very comfortable just for Pat and me. Dinner was smashing, I had hot food and Pat had the salad, and what a choice she had. We slept very well and in the morning a good hearty breakfast we had another look round.

Our route home took us past the famous dams where we saw the repairs to The Mohne Dam.

Now the cost Bed Breakfast and Evening meal with a drink was around £35 each the tour was and extra £12. and for that you see everything. You must be fit as there are no lifts inside the prison and you go in some of the tunnels. Have fun this one must not be missed.

Room Tip: Tour of Prison
