Visited early November 2016, and stayed for one night so that we were well placed for a Castle Tour the next day which had been booked for 11am.

To take advantage of the accommodation, one of us had to have paid for membership of the German YHA.

The Castle has huge history, and it was fantastic to stay within the Castle. We arrived at about 4.30pm - the room had been pre-booked - and were greeted by an English speaking gentleman who checked us in. All went well, and made our way to our room, via a lift.

The room was a good size, with 2 comfortable beds which we had to make with clean sheets which were folded neatly on the table in the room. The room was very clean, with a bathroom with a shower cubicle. Towels were provided, water was hot but there were no shampoos/soap. It was very quiet and in the morning we went for breakfast which comprised of cold meats, cheese, hard boled eggs, bread, jams and yoghirts. Coffee and Tea was available together with juices.

A great place to stay to explore the Castle.

Popped in to have a look, excellent facility for schoolchildren, guides, brownies, scouts, cadet force etc. Very informative for Colditz castle. Close to Leipzig and the countryside. Definately worth a trip if you are a youth leader.

Nice location, good size room, English spoken, games rooms with pool, table tennis, fussball , etc. As a family of four we would stay again. It was pretty economical and reception sells beer. Breakfast is basic and we found a nice local restaurant for the evening. It's a bit off the beaten track and that's what we wanted.

Do the tour round the castle even our preteens enjoyed it!

I booked a family room for husband and 11 year old son for a one night stay, before we did the Colditz Castle tour the following morning. The hostel and our room was spotlessly clean. The rooms are very basic (3 single beds, small table and stools) and there isn't anywhere to store (cold) food. We arrived on a Sunday so we pretty much had the hostel to ourselves. The hostel kitchen wasn't open that evening (it was being renovated so I'm not sure whether it's always not open on Sundays or was only not open because of the renovations) but we were directed to a nearby restaurant / beer garden a few minutes walk away from the hostel where we enjoyed a good local meal. If you're a Colditz Castle fan and the idea of being locked in the castle grounds at 10pm appeals to you, then this is a place you need to stay!

Just one over night stop for a group of 6. The place looks wonderful from the outside and is very clean on the inside. We were in a six person room consisting of three bunks, shower room and toilet. More than adequate and the staff were excellent. Make your own beds when you arrive and we used the bed sheets to escape from the 3rd floor in the morning, but only after a very large breakfast. Well worth a visit. We were told the guided tour is worth it too.
