Had a 1 night stay here, room was very big and clean, in our room we had 4 bunk beds, a private bathroom/wet room, 2 waldrobes, there were other choices of rooms, had to make our own beds, guessing that's what you do in hostels, first time in 1, breakfast was cold buffet, fruit meat cheese juice bread cereal, great place to stay, staff very helpful,

My wife and I stayed in the modern Youth Hostel for the final night of a rail holiday to Saxony.
We has a large room with en-suite Shower and Toilet. It was very clean with comfortable beds.
A buffet dinner was organised in the refectory which was superb. Beers and soft drinks also available to purchase.
The Castle has a long history prior to its WW2 fame as an Allied Prisoner of war camp (Oflag4c). We had an excellent guided tour in English which included an historical overview. The recently refurbished museum has excellent displays and artefacts from the prison camp days with story boards in German and English.
The Castle sits in a commanding position above the village of Colditz with its white walls and red roof tiles it looks very imposing.
A very interesting place to visit with excellent accommodation we hope to visit again one day.

Reviewed 20 November 2016

Visited early November 2016, and stayed for one night so that we were well placed for a Castle Tour the next day which had been booked for 11am.

To take advantage of the accommodation, one of us had to have paid for membership of the German YHA.

The Castle has huge history, and it was fantastic to stay within the Castle. We arrived at about 4.30pm - the room had been pre-booked - and were greeted by an English speaking gentleman who checked us in. All went well, and made our way to our room, via a lift.

The room was a good size, with 2 comfortable beds which we had to make with clean sheets which were folded neatly on the table in the room. The room was very clean, with a bathroom with a shower cubicle. Towels were provided, water was hot but there were no shampoos/soap. It was very quiet and in the morning we went for breakfast which comprised of cold meats, cheese, hard boled eggs, bread, jams and yoghirts. Coffee and Tea was available together with juices.

A great place to stay to explore the Castle.

Popped in to have a look, excellent facility for schoolchildren, guides, brownies, scouts, cadet force etc. Very informative for Colditz castle. Close to Leipzig and the countryside. Definately worth a trip if you are a youth leader.

Nice location, good size room, English spoken, games rooms with pool, table tennis, fussball , etc. As a family of four we would stay again. It was pretty economical and reception sells beer. Breakfast is basic and we found a nice local restaurant for the evening. It's a bit off the beaten track and that's what we wanted.

Do the tour round the castle even our preteens enjoyed it!
