The villa itself is quite nice, located on a hill in a quiet location. We had a double room (though I did request a twin room and thought I will get 2 single beds; that didn't bother me too much however - ended up sleeping in one bed with my goddaughter) with a small balcony and a tiny bathroom. The shower was just a small area with a curtain. But I guess we got what we paid for - a basic and clean room.
The family that owns the villa is really friendly. We got picked up by them from the airport within minutes (villa is located less than a 10-minute drive from the airport). Upon arrival, first question we were asked was, if we are going to rent a car. Well, I didn't have my driving license with me because I didn't realise I might need it after
having looked at the map of Santorini, location of the villa and having read the reviews where many people said 'great location' and that 'there was direct access to the beach'.
I think it should be made perfectly clear that this villa is located on the hill and the nearest bus stop (for the nearest beach) is located about 15 min walk down the hill, in Messaria. Any tavernas and restaurants are about the same distance. You can't get a breakfast at a villa, in fact you can't have breakfast in...The villa itself is quite nice, located on a hill in a quiet location. Any tavernas and restaurants are about the same distance. You can't get a breakfast at a villa, in fact you can't have breakfast in Messaria either (they don't have much choice over there at this time of the day). They seem to cater more for dinner, for locals. However you will find menus in English.
Back in the villa they very kindly serve a free coffee with a slice of cake every morning which I did take advantage of as a starting point for the day. On top of that, we supplied ourselves with breakfast bars for my goddaughter. Every morning we had breakfast on the beach, a different beach which means that we had to get there fist.
Santorini's transport system is good. Buses will take you everywhere you need/want to go. But you need to change buses to get to some locations (every time you board a bus you have to pay 1.80 euro for the trip) and the most annoying part is that they never run on time. We ended up taking a taxi (hard to find!) from the beach on 2 occassions and were changed 25 euros for a 15 min trip!
We never used the pool in the villa, although we planned to do it but every day we ended up coming back very late from the beach simply because we felt we didn't want to face the walk up and down the hill to the bus stop. We usually stayed for dinner and drinks after lounging in the sun.
We knew we will be out all the time and we're gonna need just a bed for the night. And Villa Danezis served the purpose. However we wished it was closer to the beach!More
