Before December 2015 we regularly cycled along the old railway path to this village. But since then there hasn't been a path to ride on. Desmond wrecked it.

However we were in need of some lunch after a marathon Christmas food shop in nearby Penrith and drove into Threlkeld . We did wonder if this little place would still be open as most of its patrons were 'path' walkers/cyclists.

It was very quiet, and the waitress said the Storm had really affected their business. But it was as lovely as ever, and we had the most delicious piping hot soup of the day served with crusty rye bread and butter.

So do go. They are still well and truly open for business and need all the support they can get until the old railway path reopens - whenever that may be.

My friends and I visited this cafe after being out on Blencartha Scales all day and had a lovely restful stop in this cafe. Although we only had coffee the cakes looked inviting and the snacks were also appealing but we had just finished our pack lunch. Staff were friendly and the place very clean. I will call again the next time I am in the area and it is a lot less busy than Keswick with no parking problems.

Calling with a friend who I'd recommended the cafe to following numerous visits in the summer months I was most disappointed that at only 10:30 am the floors were grubby and covered in crumbs, tea and coffee were OK but our bake well slices had a fridge taste and were not at their best.
The general appearance early on Monday morning was untidy with windows, glass doors and partitions desperately requiring a good clean and polish despite there being four members of staff on duty, it was not busy, four occupied tables, come on, something is lacking these days, sadly.

The Threlkeld coffee shop was a great find after one of our walks. Plenty of seating with great coffee and cakes on offer.
