The city of Greenwich can quite safely be described as a safe place to visit. The state of Connecticut is actually below the national average for violent crime, and the town of Greenwich features a well-equipped police force, and has a low rate of crime as well. Petty crime within Greenwich is generally low, but as with traveling anywhere a certain amount of caution should always be maintained, especially at night. While known as one of the most affluent towns in the United States it still has parts that do merit extra caution and even some areas that should be avoided by visitors.
Women can generally visit the town alone, and not feel unsafe. The city is very cosmopolitan, with a vibrant atmosphere. But you should still avoid making yourself a target. Don’t flash large sums of money, and keep an eye on your possessions while on the go. Photocopies of travel documents and credit cards should be kept separate from the originals and key telephone numbers maintained to contact banks if credit cards are stolen or lost. If doing any driving, be sure to lock the car doors while visiting Greenwich, especially around the shops, restaurants and other popular attractions.
