Columbia has pretty moderate weather year-round, except for summer, which can get hot and steamy. Summer temperatures range from the high 70s, up into the 90s, but hover in the mid 40s during the winter. Spring is generally considered the most attractive season to visit. From late March through May, visitors can see the cherry blossoms come out first, followed by the azaleas, dogwood and camellias, and finally the apple blossoms. The peaches also start coming in late May, with peak flavor in June and July. Summertime is when most of the folk, craft, art, and music festivals take place, as well as sports events. State and local fairs are held mainly in August and September. Keep in mind that hurricane season is from June through November, with peak months in August and September.
