There are quite a few different methods of transportation that can be used to get to Bar Harbor. The first and probably the most popular way is to drive. Many tourists and regular visitors who live in the New England area visit Bar Harbor every summer. Others have never before been on the Island but choose to drive here from their hometown.

The two closest major cities to Bar Harbor are Boston and Quebec. Both of them are a little bit over 250 miles away. Montreal is only around 350 miles away, and New York City is about a 475-mile drive. All of these drives are do-able, which is why so many people from these cities are frequent Bar Harbor tourists.

Another popular method of reaching Bar Harbor is to take a boat. Personal boats can be docked in Bar Harbor, ferries can be taken to the Island, and many of the large and popular cruise ships stop here. Unfortunately, the formerly popular Cat ferry no longer provides transport for passengers and vehicles between Bar Harbor and Canada.

It’s possible to fly into Bar Harbor, as it has a small local airport. However, many people choose to fly into Bangor International Airport in Maine, which is about an hour’s drive from Bar Harbor.
