Animal Welfare Pawprint
Updated Animal Welfare Pawprint
In October 2023, Tripadvisor launched a new feature to expand on its industry-leading animal welfare policy. In 2016, Tripadvisor announced the addition of a pawprint notice on all Things To Do on its site that “feature animals.” Now, we have taken this action a step further to explicitly make clear whether a listing is in compliance with our animal welfare guidelines or not. Attractions and tour operators that meet these guidelines now have a label identifying them as “Meets animal welfare guidelines,” while those not in compliance have a label that indicates “Does not meet animal welfare guidelines.”
This enhancement is an effort to increase transparency for travelers so they can make better informed decisions about where they choose to visit.
Any experiences that violate our policy will continue to be ineligible to sell tickets on Tripadvisor or its subsidiary, Viator, as initiated in 2016.
You list businesses in violation of the policy on Tripadvisor. Why aren’t you going further by removing them?
We believe that travelers coming to Tripadvisor should be exposed to all relevant information available about a destination. To this end, we aim to provide travelers with an accurate and useful picture of all accommodations, restaurants and attractions around the world that are currently open for business.
The fact that such a property may be listed on Tripadvisor does not represent our endorsement of that establishment. We provide the listing as a platform for travelers to share their genuine experiences with other travelers. As such, Tripadvisor does not remove listings of places that remain active and open for business.
What if a business changes their policy?
We encourage businesses who are currently in violation of our policy to make the appropriate changes and Tripadvisor will update its site accordingly.
If you feel that your business has been incorrectly identified, or you have made an update to comply with Tripadvisor’s Animal Welfare policy, please email awpolicy@tripadvisor.com with proof that this policy is now met.
