Lovely holiday in a beautiful location
5 of us plus dog stayed in the Yethouse farmhouse and were delighted with the spacious accommodation and beautiful garden with stunning views. The house is equipped with everything you need for a superb holiday and the beds were extremely comfortable. It is probably the best equipped house we have stayed in! We spent lots of time in the garden drinking in the views, sunsets and fabulous dark skies. Our dog loved the garden too(there is the occasional rabbit!) and really enjoyed sniffing around and chasing the ball on the large lawn. The garden is pretty secure but he did manage to escape over a low point in the wall so just be aware if you have an escape artist like ours! We had not explored this area before and we very impressed with the variety of things to do and see, from zip-wiring at Whitaugh Park to visiting a Buddhist temple! The forest walks, river walks and biking trails are on the doorstep and we didn’t need to use the car every day. The town of Newcastleton is so welcoming and everyone says hello! We loved the cake at the Olive Tree cafe and visited most days! Would definitely stay again.

380 miles to a little piece of heaven
My husband and I were the advance party travelling from the Isle of Wight to Yethouse, Newcastleton. We were absolutely delighted when we saw how tranquil the setting was and then how spacious and well equipped our home for the week was. Our daughter and family arrived a little later and we had the joy of seeing the look of sheer pleasure on their faces. The thought that has been put into the equipping of the cottage in all respects is outstanding. Combine that with the offer in Newcastleton, there is very little need to stray far. We barely moved from the area for the week except to the Roman Soldier Museum at Greenhead, followed up by a visit to Vindolanda on the same day. Our grandchildren 6 & 8 years were thrilled by both sites. Apart from that, we enjoyed our surroundings, walking locally, sitting on the hill above the cottage (to the amusement of the owners), listening to the wonderful birdlife (drumming snipe, haunting call of curlews, pipits, sky larks, house martens, nesting coal tits in the dry stone wall by the front door), fantastic hedgerows with an abundance of wild flowers and not a drop of rain for the whole 8 days. How lucky were we? We were very sad to leave this magical community behind but are very grateful for how it has had such a healing effect on us all in these very strange times. Thank you Barbara, for making our stay remarkable, comfortable and very memorable. We all loved Yethouse.

Great location
We stayed at Yethouse for a week in October. The property is a spacious and comfortable house which supplied everything you might need to a high standard. We enjoyed the cosy nights by the fire, after exploring the countryside which has stunning views and beautiful autumn colours. The drive to Langholm was breathtaking and is well recommended. The village of Newcastleton is friendly and welcoming with handy shops and eating places. We hope to return in the future and can highly recommended this property set in such peaceful surroundings and views.

A little corner of heaven!
This was our second trip to the Yethouse in Newcastleton and yet again, it didn’t disappoint! This time we took our grown up daughters and they too are now in love with this place! We were there together to celebrate a special birthday and we had a wonderful celebration. This very spacious, comfortable and well equipped house is set in the most beautiful of settings and for those of you wanting to get away from it all, you won’t go wrong by booking this gem! I can especially recommend the activity centre down the road, and swimming in the river near the footbridge at the far end of the village, it is lovely, if not a little chilly! The garden is beautiful and the views over the valley is just stunning. Clear skies at night offer stargazers an amazing opportunity to spot stars you wouldn’t see in many other locations due to light pollution and the Milky Way was very visible during our visit. There is plenty to do nearby, but it’s also the perfect place to just kick off the shoes, get the feet up and chill! Barbara always gives a warm welcome and is nearby to offer tips and advice, whilst also allowing privacy. We love this part of Scotland and it’s very evident the people there have huge pride and respect for their country whilst making visitors feel very welcome!

AB FAB. Perfect. A Star Plus.
Stayed with my wife for a week - possibly the wettest week of the year (so far), but the house made up for it. Yethouse exceeded all expectation. Everything you could want from a property. Comfort, warmth and character ooze from every corner. Felt at home from the moment we pulled in the driveway. Newcastleton, just down the road is full of friendly folk. The welcome cake was fantastic too.

Picturesque, pet-friendly and private
We stumbled across Yethouse in a frantic last-minute search for an Easter getaway, and feel like we won the lottery! And Barbara's freshly prepared "welcome" lemon drizzle cake really got things off to a good start. Nestled among hills just outside Newcastleton, this cosy farmhouse cottage provides a peaceful escape with some beautiful walks on your doorstep, without being too far from civilisation. We didn't know the area at all, so really appreciated Barbara's recommendations and pointers, all of which were spot on. Highlights for us (family of 4 + dog) were a day out at Rock UK in Whithaugh (a 20 minute walk or 2 minute drive), a visit to Sir John Malcolm's monument near Langholm (the drive itself was fun), fresh steaks from the local butcher in Newcastleton and walks through nearby woodland (1 to 2h moderate walks; mostly dry with the odd boggy patch). The house is so clean and tidy, and the eclectic ornaments and artwork make the place feel like a well-loved home. And the little touches really topped things off; things like tea, coffee, olive oil, clingfilm, etc. were all provided and meant we could spend the first evening getting settled in and not worrying about making a trip for supplies. The surrounding garden (south west facing) is private with views that go on for miles and the silence at night is perfect for sleeping off the day's activities. Highly recommended!

Perfect stay in beautiful location
A very happy family weekend away in the Yethouse. The house is in a really lovely location, great for Kielder Observatory or a visit to the Borders. Nice walks from the doorstep, gorgeous views and a sense of being away from the hustle and bustle. We had a warm welcome from Barbara, who really has thought of everything. Can’t think of a thing we’d change, the house had everything we needed and was the perfect spot for a drink by the fire, looking out on the wild landscape. We didn’t want to leave.

Perfect house for family holiday
Yethouse was the perfect house for family holiday with grandparents. Beautifully equipped and plenty of space for the children even though the weather was not great. The Olive tree in Newcastleton was a lovely friendly place to eat with excellent burgers and very accommodating for little children.

About the neighbourhood
The farmhouse sits above the village and is remote and rural, not for glitz and glamour. Truly a get away from it location; clean air, no noise but birdsong and farm animals, huge landscapes, and dark skies. Surrounded by lots of history locally and in our border towns where textiles are still the dominant industry. Stunning cloth and designs can be bought. Local distillery for whisky and gin. Eating out is possible locally all year, our 2 cafes and hotels serve quality local produce every day.
