We had a wonderful week in this delightful house with its grand surroundings and gorgeous decorative interior. The charming and friendly owners Steven and Bruce made us very welcome and were on hand to help with anything we needed. They explained the fascinating history of the Manoir and how it had been renovated to such a high standard with the utmost care to preserve the character and unique architecture whilst making it an extremely comfortable home. Maison Louis Richard is very spacious with a huge sitting room with stone fireplace, dining room with another stone fireplace, well equipped kitchen, one large bedroom and shower room-full of antiques, art, collectables, books, flowers, very much in the grand country house style. I wanted it to rain so that I could spend a day with the books, curled up in the sitting room by the fire(It was actually sunny and too warm for a fire!). There were pleasant gardens both sides of the house so you could sit in the sun all day as well as extensive grounds with a lake and swimming pool. Ideally placed to explore the beautiful Loire Valley; Saumur, Angers, Chinon were all delightful towns and the nearby chateaux included Villandry, Azay-le Rideau, Usse and a personal favourite le Rivau. Bikes were available to explore the quiet roads around the river. A highlight was the Sunday Antiques Market at Montsoreau, recommended by Steven. We were sad to leave and say goodbye to our wonderful hosts and intend to return soon perhaps with friends so that we can rent the Manoir which was equally well decorated with three amazing double bedrooms.
