Needs jobs doing .
Captain's house instow needs a bit of work doing, the drive if you have a low car forget it I've see 2 people slip at the bottom of the drive. The garage door takes a strong man to get into it and the down stairs loo no warnings if your over 5.6 you bang your head and some of the beds and pillows are very hard. Apart from that great location.

Great stay
2The house looks small from the street area, however...opens up into a beautiful home....loved the high ceilings and character that this house owns. Spacious, clean and well equipped with quality equipment. Would have been good if we could have all sat out to eat but the garden was a little overgrown, however this was a minor hitch.

The Captain’s House
The Captain’s House is located in the heart of Appledore just off The Quay. The house is very comfortable, tastefully decorated with really comfortable beds. The kitchen has everything you need to cook. We’ve stayed quite a few times and will certainly return for another stay. Jackie is always very helpful and quick to respond to any questions.

Lovely house, excellently equipped, owner Jackie very helpful pre-arrival, good location and a sunny courtyard garden
Handy central location just yards from Appledore quayside, shops, pubs and eateries. We particularly enjoyed the fish and chips from Sylvester’s, bacon and egg sandwiches from the Market Street Kitchen and the pizzas and burgers from the Flame Factory. Ice cream from Hocking’s van on the seafront not to be missed. Lovely beach at Instow with its views over the estuary to Appledore. Enjoyed our visits to RHS Rosemoor and the quirky Gnome Reserve. Docton Mill Gardens and Tea Room was well worth negotiating the north Devon lanes.

Lovely cozy home in the heart of the pretty seaside village of Appledore !!
Just back from a wonderful family holiday in The Captain's House ! The house is spacious and so well equipped.Sparkling clean and welcoming. Comfortable beds ,lovely bedding and towels. Despite the cold and wet weather we managed a BBQ . The two little boys enjoyed playing with the toys and loved watching children's videos up in the attic room. Appledore is a delightful seaside village with an abundance of lovely coffee shops and eateries. This house is in the heart of Appledore ,with a Craft shop opposite ,a bookshop next door ,a Fish-and-chips just down the road and everything else an easy walking distance. I would recommend this house 100%. I found Jackie , the owner very friendly and communication was excellent. Thank you Jackie for sharing your lovely home with us.

Superb Location
We have just returned from a 11 days stay at the Captains House. We loved it so much , we re-booked for next year before we actually left . It’s a lovely extremely spacious house , with a courtyard garden that is a sun trap in the afternoon / early evening . The house is very well equipped with everything you could possibly need and some nice personal touches by the owners. Set in a prime location in the heart of the village ,with a good choice of eateries and it also has a great little grocery shop called John’s . Don’t forget your bath towels , We did but a 10 minuet drive down to the local Asda and we were sorted. There is no parking outside of the house but there is a large car park at the end of the Quayside which charges £16 per week and you can always find a space when you return from a day out . To sum up , it was a lovely relaxing , enjoyable stay.

Delightful House in the heart of Appledore
We chose the Captains House because it suited our family by having 3 double rooms and a twin for the children. The house was lovely. The communal areas were large and comfortable and the owners had thought of everything. There was nothing we needed that wasn't available in the house. The Captains House is in the heart of the town and close to a pub, so there is some noise which I am not used to and it did disturb me on the first night, but thereafter I it was fine. I would definitely recommend this holiday rental, and recommend Appledore as a delightful destination.

Little gem in Appledore
We used to live in Appledore so know the village well. Bude street is convenient for all the shops and pubs and the house is surprisingly large with a lovely room in the eaves which is a little haven for children . Everything was there for us and loads of useful information on hand should we need it . If you were sleeping on the front it could get noisy with people walking past but a brilliant cottage for us . Thank you .

The BEST holiday rental - Appledore
The home is beautifully decorated and were stunned at how well equipped for any possible needs you would have during your stay, from outdoor dining ,to taking the kids to the beach. Body boards, chairs, bucket and spades, beach shelters! It's all there for your use. Beautiful little courtyard garden with patio table and umbrella, lovely for a sunny evening. The home has 3 lovely, clean bedrooms and a huge attic room with twin beds, all made up for our arrival,2 bathrooms again spotless. I don't think we could think of a scenario that the homeowners haven't planned or catered for, sewing kits, first aid, board games,CDs,a beautifully stocked fully equipped kitchen, including dishwasher and washing machine. Considering pets are welcome, not on beds or furniture, even they were catered for, spare bowls, treats and even towels! And tbh you would never know there had been an animal in the house. You pay for any gas used,so take a reading, and the cupboards and fridge has some staple items for your use, just replace if used, lovely touch! Coffees, teas, biscuits and milk was waiting for us on arrival which was very welcome! Even the lounge had fresh roses on display,we did check we haven't just walked into someone's home, not a holiday rental! We will definitely be visiting again and I will be devastated if the cottage isn't available! I recommend this cottage very highly 10/10 in every aspect.

Great house, great village, great activities
We stayed for four days at the Captain's House Appledore. This is a really quaint house that has all of the mod-cons and amenities you could hope for. The house is in the centre of Appledore and near the quay, lanes, craft shops, cafes and pubs. Joe and Jackie, the owners, provide a folder of useful suggestions and there is lots to do in the area. A great place to visit and a wonderful house. Ron and Breda Matthews
