Each shower has an alarm to summon help in case assistance is required. Each bedroom has a similar alarm. There is a dining kitchen and separate large sitting/dining room and a large elegant hallway. Kitchen has all modern appliances and is fully equipped and stocked with all basic foodstuffs and laundry and cleaning products.Villa is strictly no smoking, as there are fresco's on two of the ceilings, but there is ample outdoor space to smoke or on the small balcony adjacent to the front door.. Garden is well maintained with a riot of colourful planters and has barbecue and various lounging, al fresco eating areas and a large outdoor private heated pool and sunbathing area with swing seat and loungers. We provide all linens and even pool and beach towels and cool boxes and plastic cups, plates etc. for picnicking in the nearby mountains, which are a Classified National Park with protected wildlife, or the beaches of Versilia ,the Italian Riviera area which is a 30 minute drive from the villa. Pisa Airport is also around 30 minutes drive and Florence is under an hours drive. The villa is in a small village 10 minutes from Lucca centre and is a few minutes walk from the village square where there are all amenities including 2 banks a pharmacy various bars and eating places, a small mini market and a weekly open air market selling local produce and local ambulance station and doctors offices are also nearby. In the Summer there are often live bands and free concerts and dancing in the evenings in the square. The village is on a train and bus route if some guests wish to go different places from others on some days. The villa is well stocked with guide books ,maps ,games and books and local information packs .The villa will be cleaned to a very high standard for your arrival and a welcome pack waiting for you with some wine ,soft drinks, water, fruit, milk and tea and coffee. The pool is cleaned and checked and the water tested every morning around 7am. and the cover rolled back ready for your early morning swim and the whole pool area is often power washed and swept. There is an outdoor shower beside the pool for a quick rinse! The pool is open from mid March till mid September and is heated as necessary. The owner has a private apartment on the lower ground floor with a separate entrance and patio area so you will not be disturbed and of course the guests have full private use of the pool and barbecue area where there is also an exercise bike and a large netted trampaline for the kids and adventurous adults.Games and amenities including trampoline bikes etc.are used at your own risk There is ample parking for two cars within the grounds of the villa and security is good as the local police office is next door. The housekeeper is Scottish and her husband who looks after the grounds is Italian and they will be often on hand ,as will the owner if he is there, to help with any info you need or translate for you or indeed babysit or provide any extra cleaning you require. The villa is well situated for use as a base to see more of Tuscany and the surrounding area's and there are many local attractions, great golf courses, mountain walks, churches art galleries and museums a plenty as well as the beautiful city of Lucca itself with its walls and elegant buildings. If you check out Forbes Magazine on G....E you will see how highly they rate the city, they voted it the second most idyllic place to live in Europe. The house has a large screen television with a DVD player and some satellite news and entertainment channels and has free WiFi broadband connection. The villa has two infant /toddler cots available and a high chair should you need it. There are insect nets on the inside of at least one window in every room so you can sleep with a window open in Summer if you wish. The villa has many unique features including differently designed hand made tiles on each floor in every room, Inside shutters are on every window all of which are chestnut wood as are all interior doors. Two of the rooms have fresco's on the ceilings which were hand painted in 1938 and restored a few years ago.The main entrance has Carrera marble steps and marble columns and balustrade, and the kitchen floor is tiled in marble. The villa was built in 1938 and incorporates all the best of the artisans work of that period with the addition of modern plumbing and electrics for your comfort and convenience .For a time it was the home of the Mayor of Lucca, the city's highest official and with its spacious rooms it will offer plenty of room for 8 + guests without the feeling of being overcrowded. The walled city of Lucca is a beautiful medieval city, which is the birthplace of Puccini. The city is mostly pedestrianised, which is fantastic for cycling and walking. We have four bicycles at the villa for the free use of our guests,at their own risk, and there is a dedicated cycle path from the village into Lucca and the good news is that it is flat all the way there and back and is alongside the River Serchio so is well away from road traffic. The countryside north of Lucca is breathtaking with many medieval villages perched on wooded hillsides. There are many beautiful palazzos, spas and vineyards to visit in the area. In the Summer there are many musical events: Puccini operas at Torre del lago, whilst in Lucca, during July, several of the world's best musicians play in the amphitheatre Last year was the Rolling Stones and this year,2019 Elton John .There are also several jazz festivals. There are many superb restaurants within 15 mins of the house. Porcini mushrooms and truffles are some of the local specialities and olive oil from Lucca, with brands such as Phillipo Berio and Bertola are famous the world over. One hour's drive north from the villa is the beautiful ski resort of Abetone. This is a very popular Winter resort with very good facilities.low prices for ski lift passes and pistes for beginners and the more experiences skiers.Ski lifts are also open all year round for visitors . Tuscany is the birthplace of the Renaissance with artists such as Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci both being born and working locally. Puccini was born in Lucca and wrote most of his music in the area and there are many smaller towns full of art and history dating back to the Etruscan civilisation and earlier. Tuscany is known for its varied landscape: mountains, seaside resorts, vineyards and olive groves. The Etruscan Archipelago along with the area known as Cinque Terre are within easy reach. Villa Reale, the home of Elisa, Napoleon's sister and Villa Mansi are a few miles away and well worth a visit. Montecatini is probably the most famous spa town in Italy with many famous A list sports and film stars as clients (and perhaps even you) and is only 25 minutes drive from the villa. We are acutely aware that your holiday should be relaxing and stress free and we have tried to cater for your needs and are always happy to hear of any special needs you may have so that we can try our best to cater to them and ensure you want to visit us again and to recommend the villa to your friends in the future More

Loved this villa. Tony is so helpful and has great tips on things to do. Village has everything you need and easy access to public transport but would recommend car rental if you want to go further afield. Best day trip for us was Florence.

About the neighbourhood
Lucca itself is the best example in Italy of a walled fortified city which is entered by one of 5 gates and the town is known as Italy;s best kept secret owing to its lack of hotels and scarcity of accommodation. The walls at almost 5 km.long are a favourite walking and cycling route.Ruskin said it was in Lucca that he first realised what architecture really meant.Artists have been drawn to the area over hundreds of years for its unique landscape and natural light.Tuscany is known for its varied landscape: mountains, seaside resorts, vineyards, olive groves and hilltop towns. The Etruscan Archipelago along with the area known as Cinque Terre are within easy reach. Villa Reale, the home of Elisa, Napoleon’s sister and the Villa Mansi are just a few kilometers away and well worth a visit, as...
How to get there
Tuscany is well served by many major airlines and there are regular flights with British Airways, Easyjet and Ryanair to Pisa. There is a daily Qatar Airlines flight to Doha and excellent connections to most European destinations.Pisa Airport is a 35 minute drive from the villa. Car hire is advised but not a necessity and all major companies are based at Pisa Airport..
