Holiday Rental House
A beautifully restored family house, built in 1740, originally thought to have been a drovers' inn before it became the glen school in the mid 19C. The house is comfortably furnished, with two sitting rooms, open fires, well stocked library, top quality cook-ware and with all modern amenities. The quiet traditional stone building has a stone flagged hall - with underfloor heating - and spacious accommodation and is close to villages. There is direct access onto the surrounding hills. The biking is excellent, the landscape astonishingly unspoiled. Situated in a biosphere reserve and dark sky park: red squirrels, otters and much bird life along the river banks can be seen. Maps, guides are provided....A beautifully restored family house, built in 1740, originally thought to have been a drovers' inn before it became the glen school in the mid 19C. About the neighbourhood
This area of Scotland is a hidden gem. We are in a Dark Sky Reserve area so the nights are dark and the stars spectacular. There are castles and gardens, charming villages, excellent biking, and walking straight from the house into the hills or up the glen. The coast with its coves and sandy beaches is under an hour away and there is sailing and other water sports nearby on Loch Ken. Visit Castle Douglas with its galleries, and good independent shops or pick up some fish in Kirkcudbright on your way back from the book haven of Wigtown. Glasgow and Edinburgh are a day trip away.
Getting around
A car is necessary but bring your bikes as the glen goes up onto forestry tracks and you can bike all day through the hills, coming down another glen and doing a big loop if you have the stamina.
