Open plan to the kitchen with an open log fire and a large window to the rear of the property, the sitting and dining area has a sofa and chairs providing comfortable seating for four people, a large round dining table and four dining chairs. The hi-fi provides users with iPod/MP3 connection and free WiFi. Please note there are no TV's in the house! The kitchen is equipped for the experienced cook with an electric induction hob and oven, fridge and separate freezer, microwave, dishwasher and broad range of high quality hand-tools and utensils. A larder cupboard provides ample storage for dry goods and we provide herbs and spices for you to enjoy during your stay. A washing machine, clothes rack, iron and ironing board are all available too. Full recycling facilities are provided at the rear of the property. GET COMFORTABLE Heating and hot water is provided by a gas fed combi-boiler leading to generous radiators throughout the house. We provide logs for the fire. Fluffy white towels and crisp white bed linen are included and cleaning and laundry services are supplied weekly. The cottage has been recently decorated with a designers eye for detail and all rooms are furnished to a high standard. There is a modest selection of books and games for all ages to enjoy. Please note there are two sets of steep stairs in this property. Both have strong rope banisters and grab rails. RIGHT ON YOUR DOORSTEP Directly outside the front door there is a garden bench, which provides a good spot for a coffee or lunch. The house overlooks a generous square of grass, set back from the road with a rowan tree and flower pots - all beautifully maintained by the Council! The harbour is a one minute walk from the property and rocky beaches five minutes walk away. A large sandy beach is two miles from the cottage in Elie, you can walk there easily along the coastal path or drive in five minutes. There is a great Spar shop 100 yards from the cottage, open 6am till 8pm daily and 6pm Sunday, providing local baked goods, newspapers, wine, local info, cut flowers! and great smoked fish amongst everything else you could possibly need. There are two very good restaurants in the village - both serve locally caught fish and are licenced. The East Pier Smokehouse opens seasonally and is amazing - James smokes his own fish and then serves it and dressed crab, mackerel and lobster with chips and salad in a box! For more formal dining 16 West End is an award-winning fish restaurant with chef Craig Millar in charge. There is a pub in the village called the Mayview and other good pubs can be found locally. Elie has a great bake-shop and deli two miles away. One mile away there is an award-winning farm shop called Ardross selling a wide range of vegetables and organic meat. Anstruther five miles away has a large Co-op supermarket (open 6am till 11pm daily) and many more local shops. Behind the cottage East Neuk Shellfish sell every shellfish you can imagine - daily availability is what the boats provide but Ronan will let you know what's on offer and is more than happy to deal with holidaymakers and trade customers alike. GOLF AND MORE! For golf fans, St Andrews the home of golf is 12 miles away and there are several other local and municipal golf courses within a 30 minute drive from the village. There are tennis courts two miles away and an open air sea pool on the coast for the brave! Bikes and windsurfing kit can be hired in Elie. WHERE THE HECK IS THE NEUK OF FIFE? Edinburgh Airport is 35 miles away and Kirkcaldy train station is 20 miles away with regular trains to Edinburgh, St Andrews and beyond. To make the most of the area a car is recommended. That said the local bus service is quite good.More

About the neighbourhood
The East Neuk of Fife stretches from St Andrews down a coastline peppered with small villages, full of character, which face across The Firth of Forth to East Lothian on the opposite side. A jumble of quaint colourful houses lead down narrow winding streets to line the harbours and rocky shores and their distinctive crow-stepped gables, fore stairs and red pantiles preserve the impression of their time as fishing villages that were totally dedicated to the sea. St Monans itself became one of Scotland's busiest fishing ports for many years but, from the mid 1800's the fleet dwindled and the village had to rely less on fishing and more on its heritage, capitalising on its preserved architecture and waterfront (that is still very much a working harbour today).
Getting around
Craig Millar St Monans - very good but formal and expensive fish restaurant on your doorstep. East Pier Smokehouse – great smoked fish, lobster and chips, dressed crab, fantastic coffee and cakes, all on your doorstep in the St Monans harbour. Open seasonally, see their door or website for opening times, as they vary. The Haven Bar and Restaurant, Cellardyke – good home made pub grub Pittenweem chip shop (eat them on the street!) – the best in Fife Great coffee – over the road in the café or at the East Pier Smokehouse or at The Sands of Elie coffee shop St Andrews Farmhouse Cheese Company café - Falside Farm, Pittenweem, Anstruther KY10 2RT – this is a must, great light lunch or afternoon tea spot with views!
