Catemaco is located on Lake Catemaco, the 2nd largest lake in Mexico and just 20 minutes from the beaches of the Gulf of Mexico. Sitting at 1000 feet in elevation, the nights are typically cool (in the 70´s) 10 months of the year. Our family owned, gated resort type property is located in a quiet neighborhood and within less than a block a nice little grocery store. Fruits and vegetables are available from a number of little stands just a few minutes walk rom your casita. There are 2 large stores, similar to Wal-Mart, about a 5 minute drive away..great places to stock up on grocerys and other products. Lake Catemaco is only a 10 minute walk away and centro (downtown) about a 20 minute walk following the sidewalk along the lake and passing a number of small parks. Of course you can always take a taxi, about 20 pesos, to anywhere in town or catch a bus at the corner to almost anywhere in the area. Our property is staffed 24 hours a day and my husband and I are here every day to answer any questions. Some of the attractions in the area include beaches of the Gulf of Mexico, waterfalls, jungle, coffee and tobacco plantations, fishing, boating and some of the most beautiful scenery in Mexico. Tour the lake by powered launch and at Monkey Island you'll pass within yards of the Mandrill baboons and Howler and Spider monkeys. Thirty minutes away on the ocean's edge, you'll visit pristine beaches, with scuba, snorkel, kayaking and fishing. We're in the middle of the Las Tuxlas area of Veracruz. Waiting for you are extinct volcanoes, wild rivers, huge waterfalls, and hidden lakes. Being still in the 'undiscovered' area the true Mexican culture very much an everyday thing. Undiscovered, that is, except by many Europeans, Nationals and Hollywood, where 'Medicine Man' and 'Apocalypto' were filmed (check out the waterfall and jungle scenes). National Geographic crews have been in the area documenting butterflies that are unique to the area and universities from all over the world have explored the ancient Olmec culture native to the area.More

Actually we have been to this facility many times. We have spent the months of December January and February here in various years. We think it is great. Not tourist saturated, Just tourist friendly. The campus is wonderfully located on the edge of town, on a river, yet easy walk to the zocalo ( center). The town is big enough to meet all necessary requirements, yet not busy with traffic. The town is aimed at a gay tourist trade, but Mexican, not American. Lots of eateries and interesting sites of local habitation and nature. Language is not a problem. The villas and park are well kept and well designed for a long stay. Beautiful surroundings, but not polished. A marvelous pool. We always find good company here with a few close friends and/or family. Daily conversations, excursions, and holiday gathering for a meal, pot luck or sometimes hosted. The guest here can become your friends away from home, or you might choose quiet. The jungle invites. This is not Cabo, nor is it rustic. This is where the tourists haven't populated. Great!! Safe any time of day, friendly everywhere. Lots of really pleasant surprises.

The best kept secrete in Mexico, Tepetapan is situated above a rapid river which spills out of a beautiful lake. Across the river is a tropical rain forest where large iguanas lay on the forest canopy. Waterfowl of many size, shape and color fly above the river. A short walk away is the malecon, the road that follows the lake shore. Along the malecon are parks, restaurants, venders of food and wares, souvenir shops, hotels, but most noticeable are the boats and the boat people. Hire a launcha for a ride to see monkeys on one of the islands, environmental resorts, or one of the many interesting towns around the lake. Twelve miles away are pristine beaches, great fishing and more boat rides. The Villas are spacial, clean and well equipped, the grounds are beautiful and well maintained, the pool magnificent, the surroundings secure and the host, Gene, is the best. My wife and I have been going there for seven years and will be spending this next winter there too. My name is Fred, My phone number is 256-267-1186, my cell: 256-267-6725 and my email address is fredandlyd@gmail.com. Call me if you want more information about Catemaco or Tepetapan.
