The rustic off-grid lifestyle here isn't for everyone though it's mighty cosy and a perfect getaway for self-reliant singles and couples. But make no mistake, there's no flush toilet, electricity, TV, or cell service, and the nearest WiFi hotspot is a 5-mile drive. There is an outhouse and an outdoor on-demand hot shower and an outdoor clawfoot tub with a sunset view, but if you depend on a fully modern bathroom you won't be happy here. If you want to get away from the modern zoom zoom zoom then you'll have found paradise. There's a landline for emergencies, but let go of all that — tune in to the eagles, moose, and whales cruising by, and listen to the babble of the brook or the waves crashing on the rocks below. The lookout cabin sits atop an 85 foot cliff overlooking the warm summer waters of the Gulf of St Lawrence. The sunsets over the water are fabulous. The yard is private and the cabin is not visible from the road. The kitchen appliances, stove, oven, cooler, and lighting all run on propane, handcranks, batteries, or solar. There's a woodstove for heat should you need it. Dishes, cookware and utensils are provided, as well as clean linens, but bring your own towels. This is a nature lover's paradise, a place to reconnect with the natural world and recharge your batteries in that way you can only get where the sky is huge and the mountains crash into the sea. $800/week for 1 or 2 person occupancy, $900/week for 3 or 4 Weeks run Saturday afternoon to Saturday morning Offseason retreats available by the monthMore

I wasn't able to stay at Phillip's cabin due to last minute unforeseen circumstances - but Phillip was great at answering all questions/concerns I had, leading up to my anticipated stay. He spoke on the phone with me when I felt that would be easier communication than e-mailing. He spent a great deal of time thoroughly explaining things and offering great advice. I recommend staying here simply because Phillip was so helpful! I regret not being able to stay, and hope to one day in the future.

The location is stunning and the stay is rustic but still comfortable. The outdoor shower overlooking the bay is, by itself, worth the stay. The cottage was well equipped. We saw beautiful wildlife nearby (whales, moose, owls, eagles) and the sunsets were indeed spectacular. We had rain so I reacquainted myself with solitaire, we read and even did a puzzle. It was great not to have the distraction of tv, "smart" phones and internet. The main downside was the presence of little creatures (mice) - hard to avoid in the setting but hard to ignore. On the whole though a great stay and nice to be truly disconnected.

The house was exactly as advertised, and all of the tips given to us by Phillip made us feel like we had a locals insight into the best things to do and see! The location of the house was magnificent; the house itself simplistic and charming, with everything needed to comfortably enjoy our week long stay. This was a trip that our young daughters are still talking about, and we can't wait to return next summer!

You can easily spend an entire afternoon rocking on the hammock overlooking the bay - it's that nice - or, follow Phillip's detailed guide and find places only the locals know of. You'll appreciate his insider knowledge of the area when you trek to those spots. If you go, get to Polletts Cove. The place is magical and well worth the 2+ hour hike in. You might want to hang out here for a few hours and watch the unicorns (horses) graze. The Cove looks like something out of a Lord of the Rings movie. It is breathtaking. Back at the cabin, we watched the sun set almost every night, made even better while you're under a warm outdoor shower (or bath) with unobstructed views of the bay. The sun sets over what seems like an eternity, and you can likewise watch it from inside the cabin's second floor nook. Be ready and comfortable with using an outhouse, taking an outdoor shower (it has privacy) and cooking with propane. The cabin does have running water and everything you'd need to cook/clean. Phillip was great to deal with. Everything was as described (I'd say better). We loved our stay and found it a way to escape some of our modern trappings. Would love to come again!
