Woolverton just a 15 minute drive from the beautiful world heritage city of Bath. It is a cosy stone built detached country cottage with original exposed timber beams, floorboards and exposed oak studded walls and window seats in abundance. There is an inglenook fireplace and wood burner in the large open plan lounge/dining room, which also has a double sofa bed if required, increasing the sleeping capacity from 6 to 8 guests. The lounge/dining room is light and airy with large windows letting in natural sunlight even though it is an exposed beamed cottage. A TV with the basic NOW package, dvd player with many dvd,s and games plus a music centre are provided along with board games for those relaxing evenings with your loved ones around the lovely log burner. The dining area has a table and 8 seats which is located adjacent to a separate fully equipped kitchen overlooking the patio and paddocks. There is a wooden staircase which leads down to the family bathroom, 2 double bedrooms (one en_suite) and a third bedroom with bunk beds. There is direct access via the French doors to the patio area on the first floor with BBQ in the rear garden which overlooks the adjacent fields of grazing cattle, ideal for enjoying a glass of wine in the long long summer evenings. The front garden and the off street parking for up to 3 cars can be accessed from the rear garden via the gated fence line. Woolverton is a lovely rural hamlet located on the A36 miles south of Bath. Ivy Cottage is sited on a small country lane leading to the villages of Laverton, Lullington and Faukland. Woolverton is set in the countryside, offering a welcoming fine old local pub called the Red Lion serving quality food and beverages. UThere are many fine country walks meandering around the River Frome which has remains of several 16th Century water powered woollen mills., including Rode Mill which is where the colour dye 'Royal Blue' was invented. There are several other local village country pubs and several restaurants within 5 minutes drive of Ivy Cottage, including Tuckers Grave inn at Faukland, which has changed little over the last 100 years, serving local ales and scrumpy cider direct from the barrel to the glass. The famous George Inn at Norton St. Philip is only 1 mile away, is one of the oldest Inn's in England and has the longest running licence dating back to the 14th century. It was build as a guest house for the monks of Hinton Charterhouse Priory ion the 12th century and was at the centre of a battle in 1685 between the Kings troops and the pretender to the throne, the Duke of Monmouth. There are several nearby local villages and the small market towns of Frome and Bradford on Avon. It is also in easy reach of the world heritage city of Bath and historical castles at Nunney and Farleigh Hungerford. Other famous places such as Stonehenge, Avebury, Gladstonbury, Longleat and Stourhead are also in easy driving distance.. There are several local golf courses, rowing clubs, fishing lakes, clay pigeon shoots and Leisure centres, for the more active ones amongst us, all within easy reach of the cottage. If you want to explore further away, the coasts of North Somerset, South Devon and the Jurrasic coast of Dorset are all within 1.5 hours drive. The nearest pub is the Red Lion which is in the village The nearest shop is about 1. 5miles away in the next village at which is the Rode village store and post office. The nearest airport is at Bristol which is approximately 25 miles away. There are railway stations at Westbury, Frome, Trowbridge and Bradford on Avon all less than 5 miles away. Bath station 9 miles. There are several local bus services from the bus stop outside the Red Lion Public House. Services to Bath, Trowbridge and Frome. Notes: No pets allowed and no smoking property. About the neighbourhood
Woolverton is a rural hamlet in the parish of Telisford. There are many country walks locally including a riverside walk down to the next village of Rode. There is a local pub across the A36 from the cottage called the Red Lion which serves food and has a friendly local bar where you will be made welcome.
Getting around
It is recommended that you have your own transport to fully explore the beautiful countryside but is not essential as there is a good local bus service from Woolverton to the city of Bath and the local towns of Frome, Warminster, Bradford on Avon and Trowbridge, calling at all the local villages along route. A bus timetable is provided in the guest information pack.
