The Byre, what can I say about it? Beautiful cottage in a beautiful setting. Super clean with everything you could possibly wish for. Charlotte & Nigel are the perfect hosts. The welcome pack was a lovely touch and very welcome. We will return.

The Byre is a very spacious single bedroom cottage on the lower slopes of the Mendips a few miles away from Wells. This is an excellent central location with Wells itself only a few minutes away, Glastonbury a little further than that, Burnham-on-Sea, Weston super mare and Clevedon all with 30 or so minutes drive and Bath and Bristol both easily accessible too. As another review says, the photos, though very good, barely do it justice. There's an entrance porch, a very generous bedroom and modern bathroom, a large open plan and well equipped hall/kitchen and a single step down into a living room with patio doors and views over the garden and out onto the Somerset levels. There's also a log-burner. With thick walls, high ceilings and very effective central heating it was very cosy for our visit in early March, I can imagine it also being cool in the warmer weather too. All fixtures and fittings are very good quality and the entire cottage is very tastefully decorated. We simply could not fault it in any way, highly recommended and we will definitely be back for future visits.

Lovely little cottage in a great location for visiting Cheddar and other parts of Somerset. Gorgeously designed conversion with a lovely little welcome pack provided - tea, coffee, biscuits, cake. The garden is amazing though unfortunately the weather wasn't really good enough during our few days there to make the most of it. The driveway is very steep to park on and getting out can be a little awkward. The Wifi connection is very weak as well as there is no booster or router (that we could find) in the cottage, especially when it is stormy! All in all a wonderful cottage with lovely hosts but needs better Wifi to get 5 stars!

We had such a great trip away at the byre. The cottage was so nice and homely, clean and spacious. The views over the garden and countryside beyond were amazing. Nigel and Charlotte were friendly and helpful and they gave a lot of attention to our dog Barney which he loved. We hope to be back there soon and would highly recommend to others.

Sitting on the patio looking out at Nigel and Charlotte's beautiful garden, we could have been anywhere in the world. This property is beautiful inside and out and situated in such a convenient spot for visiting the spectacular countryside and beaches. Would highly recommend.

The Byre was a perfect find. Charlotte and Nigel are perfect hosts. It's clean comfortable and everything you will need for your stay, with a few extras as well. A central location for for all the attractions and walks a plenty. A beautiful garden which you can admire from the patio or stroll around with permission of course. We enjoyed our week here very much and would I recommend it to anyone. Thank you Charlotte and Nigel.

The photos do not show just how nice this property is. Large king size bedroom, large well equipped kitchen, large bathroom, lovely patio to sit on with views of the owners garden and far reaching views beyond that. The location is only 5 minutes from Cheddar and 15 minutes from Wells which made it very convenient for any needs while staying somewhere a bit more remote. Parking on the drive right by the door was a great benefit too. The owners are lovely people, always happy to have a chat and provide recommendations such as near by walks and any places to go if you need something more to do in the area. We went with 2 dogs and a baby, and they catered well for both, providing travel cot and high chair for us. We cooked in the property most nights, and we had everything we could possibly need. The condition of the property itself was very good, it all looked brand new still. You will struggle to find such a good property for anywhere close to the value of this one - definately worth it by a mile!

We had a delightful stay at the Byre. The welcome pack was excellent and the place has everything a couple needed. Nigel had even gone to the trouble of supplying a range of walks that all started from our front door. The Byre is conveniently located near Cheddar, you can even walk there in an hour or so using back roads. We stayed 6 nights and would book it again.

We have just returned from 3days at The Byre. Charlotte and Nigel have literally thought of everything, and it’s all of a very high standard and quality. The folder is really helpful with lots of local information and walks. We had our little JRT with us and she loved it too.!!

About the neighbourhood
Draycott lies in the Cheddar Valley, on the southern edge of Mendip, between the hills and the Somerset Levels. Mendip is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Draycott is a perfect base from which to walk or cycle with many routes available directly from the village. The West Mendip Way – a 30 mile way-marked route from Uphill to Wells - passes directly through the village. The tradition of strawberry growing in the Cheddar Valley continues and some of the best strawberries in the land are available from early May each year. The village of Cheddar with its famous gorge and caves is just 2 miles away and the historic town of Axbridge is also nearby. Travelling further west, the coastal resort of Weston-super-Mare is just 15 miles away – with its recently built pier (following a fir...
