THRILLED TO SAY WE HAVE BEEN AWARDED A TRIP ADVISOR CERTIFICATE OF EXCELLENCE IN NOVEMBER 2017. This is a charming converted hay barn which has recently been up graded set amongst the rolling hills of the North Pennines in an area of outstanding natural beauty. The property benefits from far reaching views, which can be appreciated from the living accommodation and the properities private viewing deck.

People who visit tell us that the most enjoyable aspects of their stay are the stunning views, peace and tranquillity so they can chill out and the local walks which are literally right on the doorstep.

Please note that the stairs in the cottage may make this cottage unsuitable for people with mobility issues.

Local amenities are near by which include the post office, co-op, village shop, doctors, cafes and pubs as well as the fortni...

Interaction with guests
We always try and see guests into the cottage and make sure they have our contact details. We will try our best to offer suggestions for places to eat and places to go if asked and we are on hand to deal with any issues if they arise. However we will not contact or call in on guests once they have arrived as we don't wish to intrude on their privacy.

Stayed here for two nights and it was FABULOUS. Everything you could possibly need. Warm cosy clean. Bed lovely and comfortable. Lovely welcome with flowers, chocolates, wine and more. Great décor, great hosts. Explored the area with our dog, walked along the Weardale Way.

About the neighbourhood
The Area is classed as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with many old building and farmsteads dating back to the 1700s. It is thought to be a walkers paradise with many ancient footpaths and byways that take you deep into the heart of the North Pennines. Cycling is safe and a popular means to enjoy the area and visit the many interesting beauty spots and local pubs. Weardale is locally famous for having a church and a pub in every village, so something for everyone! The area is well known in Methodist history as a place visited by Wesley, who famously preached at the bottom of the hill leading to the cottage, before the chapel was built. The tree under which he preached is said to still be standing. There is a classic railway running through Weardale and also a steam engine running a... more
Getting around
There are local taxis but a car is probably necessary if guests are wanting to get about.
The pubic bus service runs along the main road about half a mile for the cottage and routes can be taken on the bus to all the main cities around the area, but would need to be planned.
The Weardale bus company do run excursions through out the year and some of these might be on interest to guests.
A railway does run in the valley during the Summer season.
