They will be updated shortly** The Hutch is a new build holiday cottage within the grounds of our own house. We have built it over this summer based on what we look for in holiday accommodation (style and substance), and therefore hope you won't be lacking in anything. Parking for up to two cars is off road just outside the cottage, where you can then access The Hutch through your own gated entrance. On entering The Hutch step into the light, bright hallway. On your immediate left is your fully tiled, luxury bathroom with full length bath, overhead power shower, fluffy towels, posh handwash and handcream. Bath robes are provided. Opposite the bathroom is the bedroom. Again, we have tried to finish the room to a high standard. There is a king size bed with deep mattress, high thread count Egyptian cotton bedding, plump pillows, cushions, stylish bedside lamps for night or day time reading. A wardrobe with hanging space, drawers and shelves is tucked in the corner, where there is also space for a travel cot if required (which we provide). The bedroom is also dual aspect but private. **Please note the garden area needs some work over the winter so excuse the temporary unkempt outlook.** Out of the hallway you enter the open plan living, dining and kitchen room. The over riding feature is the wonderful views over the surrounding farmland - deer, sheep, cows and horses can often be seen. There is also a comfy 3 seater sofa, coffee table with travel and interior books to browse, flat screen TV, electric fireplace, cupboard with more books, board games and baby/toddler toys and books. Positioned in front of the floor to ceiling windows, is a small dining table and comfy dining chairs for two people (high chair can also be provided). The kitchen is a stylish, modern light grey with washer/dryer, fridge (with small freezer box), oven, induction hob, kettle, toaster, microwave and Nespresso coffee machine. The kitchen sink looks straight onto trees where you might see wild birds hopping around. Owls are also a common nocturnal noise here. Finally, French doors lead out of the living area onto a purpose built wooden deck terrace. From this elevated position you look over our garden onto the surrounding fields. A Weber BBQ and bistro set are there to be enjoyed day or evening. In terms of provisions, for those staying 2 nights o more we will make sure you have a bottle of wine to sip, some homemade cake, eggs from the village, milk, bread, cereal and museli. Tea, coffee, sugar, olive oil, salt and pepper etc are always available regardless of length of stay. Within 5-10 drive is a small McColls shop and Tesco Express can be found in St Thomas, or a large Sainsburys in Alphington. A welcome pack will be in The Hutch providing local information, but if you are new to the area and are looking for restaurant recommendations or a taxi to be booked before you arrive, then please let me know. Guest Interaction While we live in the main house (20 metres) across the drive from The Hutch we will welcome you, answer any questions you have and be on hand for help, but also leave you to your own devices. We do have a young child and a beagle, who is friendly but has a tendency to woof at any new visitors as they arrive. Neighbourhood overview We are located 3 miles to the west of Exeter and 3 miles from the edge of Dartmoor National Park. In fact, it is one of the main reasons our house appealed so much to us. Proximity to such a fabulous city and also to the wild moorland scenery. Beaches are about a 20-30 mins drive away - Exmouth, Teignmouth and Dawlish are our favourites and all have great facilities. Longdown is a small, quiet village 10 mins drive outside of Exeter. The Lamb Inn is a 3 min walk down the hill from the cottage. A children's play area is 5 min walk within the grounds of Longdown Village Hall. Getting around It is definitely best to bring a car, although for short stays you can get around via a country bus service which passes through the village between Moretonhampstead and Exeter, or cycle (there are some big hills) or taxi. A taxi from the city back to The Hutch in the evening is around £10-15. Other things to note We are located on a well ridden cycling route onto Dartmoor, so if you plan on bringing bikes we can safely store them in our locked garage across the drive.

We can't wait to come again
We have just arrived home from a few days away at this beautiful self contained holiday home in the grounds of Chloe and her family's home. By the second day, I'd already emailed Chloe to book again for the end of the Summer! Beautiful and well equipped apartment, had absolutely everything we needed and was warm, cosy, comfortable and clean! Home from home! Really liked all the little touches like wine, bread and milk for our arrival, dressing gowns and the binoculars and bird books. I spent a peaceful hour every morning spotting lots of different bird species and learning about them from the sofa with a cup of tea! Chloe has been a brilliant host since we booked keeping in touch regularly by email. We tried quite a few of the recommendations from the Welcome Pack too including visits to Exeter and the Quayside, Topsham, Darts Farm and the Puffing Billy, would recommend them all. We're looking forward to returning in a few months to explore some more.

Peaceful relaxation with a view
We stayed in The Hutch in August and enjoyed it so much that we booked again for early October. Chloe is very welcoming and helpful and provides everything needed for a clean and safe holiday in these difficult times. She even asked us what type of wine we wanted in the generous welcome package! The pictures on this website are accurate so the Hutch is as good as it looks, including the view. We had a meal at the The Lamb which is a few minutes walk away and thoroughly enjoyed that as well. This is an excellent place to stay if you want peace and quiet without banging hotel doors etc, but still close to the seaside towns and attractions of the Devon countryside.

Amazing Location, Perfect Stay
We were fortunate enough to be the second guests staying at ‘The Burrow’, the newly completed 1-bedroom garden apartment perfectly located in the village of Longdown, between Exeter and the east of Dartmoor. This excellently finished contemporary accommodation is in addition to the 1-bedroom holiday cottage ‘The Hutch’ and is now part of this well-established family run holiday rental business. A warm welcome greets you by hosts Chloe, Alan & Trixie and you soon feel at home and settled in the comfortable surroundings with outstanding views over the countryside. Nothing is any trouble for the hosts, who are on hand for any questions or tips about the local areas and amenities etc. It’s the hidden touches which are a real bonus – so you’ll have to see them for yourself after booking up and arriving! We walked down to The Lamb Inn one evening (5 min walk) for a delightful meal which was all locally sourced. There are plenty of walks nearby and this superb location offers short journeys to the wonderful beaches around Exmouth, the towns along the River Exe, e.g. Topsham and Lympstone, Dartmoor National Park and of course the historic city of Exeter itself. If you want a relaxing break in exceptionally fitted present-day accommodation, then this is the perfect stay, as it was for us! Thank you Chloe, Alan & Trixie – looking forward to seeing you all again very soon!!

Relaxing character country bolthole
The location - Rural village in Longdown with views across the countryside from The Hutch. Very welcoming host Chloe lives in the adjacent property and happy to help with any queries we had and provided a list of recommended local eateries/pubs. We ate in The Lamb Inn which was within walking distance and served excellent locally produced food (booking essential). Exeter is a 10 minute drive away and other lovely locations such as Dawlish, Salcombe and Dartmouth are nearby. (Social distancing applied). We are looking forward to our next visit (already booked for next year) and hope to enjoy some National Trust properties and gardens which were closed during this visit due Covid. The property is decorated/furnished to a very high spec and was spotlessly clean with items removed such magazines and children's toys for infection control purposes. The welcome pack was more than ample (optional during Covid) containing a good bottle of red, local milk, biscuits, butter, cereal, jam and bread. Looking forward to next years 'chill out'

Absolutely amazing in every way.
Having stayed at The Hutch last summer, we decided to re-visit after having such a lovely time 12 months ago. Once again, we were not disappointed. The attention to detail in the property is second to none and it truly does feel like a ‘home from home’. Chloe, Alan and their family (including dog Chester of course) are so welcoming. Nothing is too much trouble for them, and they are on hand if you ever have any questions or are after recommendations for things/places to see and do, but leave you to your own devices too - a perfect combination. Close to Exeter (around £12 in a taxi), the location is ideal. Great for a quiet getaway, but close to the hustle and bustle of city life if you crave it. We had another lovely weeks stay and as we told Chloe when we were leaving, we’re sure it won’t be the last time we visit!!

Everything you want for a relaxing break in Devon
Our own little personal cottage, warm, cosy, quiet, beautifully presented and Chloe was a excellent host. Good size rooms, well equipped kitchen, comfy lounge and a super bed. It was nice to have a shower and bath for a soak after a day on Dartmoor. Longdown is close to Exeter, plenty to do there, try the Underground Passages. The South Devon beaches are close by, we really liked Teignmouth. Good pub a very short walk away and plenty more in the surrounding villages.

Thanks very much for your review, it was a pleasure to host you and your wife for your stay at The Hutch. Glad to hear you got out and about the local area where there is so much to see and do - even in the winter! Hopefully we can welcome you again in the summer months when you can actually sit on the deck and enjoy the view in more clement weather! Thanks again Chloe
