One of the best
This is not the most modern of accommodation but it is one of the most comfortable with the most magnificent of views. We were made most welcome by Maureen and Ron who live on site in a separate house. Although on site they were not intrusive but were there to help when we asked.
Russell is well supplied with good restaurants, we ate in several in our 5 day stay. We arrived after dark, a 4 hour drive from Auckland, and next morning the sunrise and the view was spectacular from every room. We saw many boats stopping to watch the Dolphins and went on a 4 hour cruise to see the Dolphins, go through the hole in the rock and land on one of the islands at Maureen's recommendation. We spent many hours relaxing and just watching the view a totally relaxing break.

Cosy appartment with stunning views and excellent hosts
Villa du Fresne has been the prefect place to stay with our son (12 months). We enjoyed the stunning view on the bay of islands, and the beach is only a two minutes stroll away. Maureen and Ron have been prefect hosts, very well equipped kitchen. It has been every thing we hoped for and more, defintely would reccommend it to friends and we hope to be back ourselves as well.

Hat alle Erwartungen weit übertroffen - in jeder Hinsicht
Wir haben die Weihnachtsfeiertag 2015 mit unserer 7 jährigen Tochter in der Villa verbracht. Es war hinreißend. Schon die Korrespondenz mit Maureen war überaus freundlich und herzlich. Das Haus selbst liegt wunderschön mit Blick aufs Meer. Die Bilder können nicht annähernd wiedergeben, wie reizvoll es ist. Es ist alles vorhanden was das Herz begehrt und wir haben sehr schöne Tage dort verlebt. Ein herrlicher Ort um nach der langen Anreise zu entspannen.
Das Beste sind jedoch eindeutig Maureen und Ron, die uns herzlich aufgenommen und in jeder Hinsicht umsorgt haben. Insbesondere zu unserer Tochter waren sie unglaublich lieb. Es gab extra einen Weihnachtsbaum und sogar Geschenke und leckeres Konfekt (Maureen backt köstlich) zum heiligen Abend. Für jedes unserer kleinen Problemchen, (Tochter krank, Bienenstich, Steinschlag in der Scheibe...) hatten sie eine Lösung parat und waren dabei immer herzlich und zuvorkommend. Obgleich wir danach noch viele Unterkünfte mit netten Gastgebern hatten, konnte keiner den beiden das Wasser reichen. In jeder Hinsicht empfehlenswert und hervorragendes Preis-Leistungsverhältnis

superb in every way
Retired I, my wife and our female cousin adored our six days. More a boutique hotel than a holiday let; each morning, starting with our personal sunrise we enjoyed the stunning views from the cliff top where the ocean offered a fresh interest every moment - including large and small boats and sighting of dolphins and the adjacent islands. Here you can stumble to the pebble beach immediately beneath or find an excellent sandy beach just around the corner. Russell is a decent walk but short drive away.
Our hosts Maureen and Ron were unobtrusive but nothing was too much trouble proving very supportive particularly helping to fix up ongoing travel arrangements and we left good friends. The property is beautiful, comfortable and totally flexible - either as two separate apartments or as one spacious dwelling for the three of us; it would be difficult to find a better stay.

Spectacular direct view of the ocean, comfortable accommodations and fantastic hosts.
My husband and I stayed with friends in January 2015 and were amazed at the spectacular direct view of the ocean. It was wonderful to open the floor to ceiling glass doors after a sound night's sleep and enjoy the summer breeze and sunshine. Our hosts were gracious and always available to answer any questions. Only wish we could have stayed longer.

Heavenly Villa Du Fresne is my idea of Paradise.
My husband and I arrived on 30 January and had the most wonderful four night stay in this idyllic apartment. We were warmly welcomed and made to feel we were family. Maureen and Ron are very hospitable and attentive without being intrusive and nothing is too much trouble for them.
The accommodation is immaculate and spacious and the view of the Bay of Islands will stay with me for ever and the dolphins when the boats are close by.
If you are in Russell you will be very fortunate if you manage to stay with Maureen and Ron. They are exceptional and very special people and you feel privileged to have met them and shared their beautiful facilities.

The best rest in NZ
Maureen and Ron Redwood have this idyllic B&B; with the most fantastic view across the Bay of Islands. Always on hand to help and provide whatever you need, the hosts have thought of all the things you will need to make your stay a very pleasant one. Unlike, most B&Bs; which provide the breakfast only - there is enough food in the fridge to cover more meals and also staple items in the cupboards to avoid having to buy wasteful items. The nice touches like fresh fruit and vegetables as well as cakes and biscuits direct from Maureen's oven. More than anything is the glassed in patio area where you can sit, read, have a drink or a meal, enjoy the view or just vege out - it really is your home away from home. Russell and Paihia are close to all the attractions of the Northland. So much ground can be travelled in a day trip from there. The really nice touch is to wake up and find your national flag on the pole!

Mediterranean-like views
Villa du Fresne was a place with magnificent views and an owner who paid attention to every detail. It was was spacious, clean and well-appointed. The owners were friendly and thoughtful.

Very comfortable with amazing views over the sea.
We stayed for just 2 nights at the start of our holiday in New Zealand and we wished we could have stayed longer. The villa is level throughout on the ground floor and is very spacious, comfortable and clean.
Maureen and Ron were most hospitable and helpful, they recommended the best restaurant to eat, where to go fishing and provided all we needed for breakfast and essentials.
The uninterrupted views from the villa over the sea are fantastic.
It was a perfect spot to explore Russell and the surrounds (with a hire car). Highly recommended.

Mediterranean style villa with one or two bedrooms. Interior decor is relaxed and inspired by the colours of the area. Comfy lounge suites and plenty of cane furniture in conservatory
Situated on elevated site overlooking Tapeka Beach with views out to the Islands of the Bay. Dolphins regularly visit our little bay and from the conservatory you can see all the water traffic coming and going from the islands.
Interesting rocky formation at either ends of the beach. Good safe swimming beach just 2 minutes walk from the Villa or the beach immediately in front is ideal for snorkeling and diving for sea food.
Getting around
Russell historic village just 5 minutes over the hill by car or about a 20 minute walk.
Passenger ferry across to Paihia, 10 minute ride
Waitangi Golf course 30 minutes by car and Kerikeri 45 minutes.
