Plum Tree Apt is a one bedroom, fully self-contained apartment with a loft bed and full kitchen and high quality bathroom facilities. It is located in a quiet bush setting and affords beautiful sunsets with the soft sounds of native birds, and features a large deck.
We offer free wifi and DVD player.
I would not recommend this place. The apartment has an old, musty smell to it and gave me an allergic reaction. It’s not very clean, even grimy in some spots. There are plenty of cobwebs inside and out; I had big spider-like insects crawling across the bed, which made me feel quite uncomfortable sleeping there.
On the upside, the apartment has a big porch and a nicely done bathroom. The owners resolved issues promptly and gave me a ride to the wharf when I checked out, saving me the 25-minute walk to town with heavy bags.
Overall, I cannot recommend the apartment and will not stay there again myself.

The Plum Tree Apartment is an absolute wonderful place to explore the Bay of Islands. Robin and Rick are very friendly and nice hosts. The apartment is very clean and looks exactly as in the pictures. Walking distance to the city center of Russell. We really enjoyed our time here and would recommend it to all our friends who will visit the Bay of Islands.

Charming, comfortable, peaceful apartment in beautiful Russell
Comfortable and charming apartment with lovely view over trees and hills, great bathroom. We loved Russell, and would stay here again. Some might mind no television but we didn't mind a break from it and there is an interesting selection of DVDs. Good to have wifi!

Preiswerte Unterkunft in Russell
Das kleine Appartement liegt im Haus der freundlichen Gastgeber (die ansonsten die Yacht "Phantom" mit Tagesausflügen für 110 NZD betreiben), hat einen eigenen Eingang und eine private Terrasse mit Pflaumenbäumen davor (wenig freie Sicht). Es ist sehr gut eingerichtet und hat ein modernes Bad. Den Müll muss man selbst entsorgen. Das breite Bett bietet eine Aussicht auf Sternenhimmel, wenn die Nacht klar ist. Es gibt sogar einigermaßen schnelles Internet per WLAN. Bis zur Anlegestelle in Russell läuft man ca. 15 Minuten zu Fuß oder 3-4 Minuten mit dem Auto. Für 100 NZD soll man in Russell nicht zu viel erwarten, aber hier das war es absolut wert. Die einzigen Kritikpunkte: Das Appartement wird nicht abgeschlossen, es gibt keinen Schlüssel, da angeblich nicht nötig. Und das Geschirr könnte einmal gründlich durchgewaschen werden.

About the neighbourhood
The property is in a quiet bush setting that is 5 minutes, by car, from the village of Russell. It is located close to a well marked walking track in the Bay of Islands. You are a 12 minutes walk from the village and the same to a beautiful swimming beach. The village of Russell is well known throughout New Zealand for its history and charm and there are numerous restaurants from fine-dining to 'take-away'. The village offers several historic attractions and art galleries as well as being a hub for all the boat tours that visit the bay and surrounds. Russell was the first capital of New Zealand and is steeped in much Maori culture.
Getting to Russell is easy (1) take the car ferry from Opua which runs every 10 minutes tip 10 pm, daily or (2) enjoy the scenic route on the Old Russell Road, just north of Whangarei. Stay on the paved road all the way around to Russell and see some of New Zealand's all-amazing scenery.
