The house, called Pondok Apsari, is very unique because it's grown around an old rice barn. Inside and out site are floating over in each other. The living room and kitchen are one. The roofcovered semi-open bathroom is a separate building, with hot and cold water. There is also a roof covered studio for art activities and in the spacious tropical garden is a swimming pool with a great view on ricefields and far below the Bali sea and the city of Singaraja.Your stay can be tuned to your wishes and personal demands like fi meals. We can also organise all kinds of activities and help you to make an attractive program. The English speaking staff takes care of household, garden and swimming pool. On request we can serve you breakfast, lunch and/or diner. The property lies 330m above sea level...The house, called Pondok Apsari, is very unique because it's grown around an old rice barn. On walking distance is a jungle area and an exiting river in a gorge with places to swim in waterfall pools. They call it the secret garden of Sambangan. Pondok Apsari is part of a simple village where the people live like 30 years ago, except for mobil phones, television and motorbikes. If needed, a car with driver is available to rent. We also can help to arrange motorbikes. Because the owner is an artist, she can organise day workshops like 'cutting your own statue out of volcanic sand' and modelling with clay. On request a total of 6 beds can be arranged. Every guests more than 2 pay a subcharge. You can ask for information.More

The property is very beautiful, rest of surrounding add more beauty. Best place for couples who want to live in peace undisturbed by traffic. Higly recommend to people who are bored and disturbed by city life. Unfortunately I didn spend much time, would love to visit again.

This quirky converted rice barn is perfect for a romantic hideaway, tucked between rice paddies far away from crazy crowds. The loudest noise is the frogs at night. Beautifully decked out with all that you will need, perfectly placed pool with views for days! Close to the amazing waterfalls and superb walks. Village feel. Gi is the perfect host, he is so friendly and helpful, great cook, tour guide and driver. Felt blessed to be able to start my new year in such a soulful spot. Make sure to get a palm reading from the local healer and a slide down the waterfalls is a must! thank you!

We loved staying in the rice barn. It has just about everything we could have hoped for, including a friendly and knowledgeable caretaker, Ji. It was the perfect place to escape from the crowded touristy spots of Bali and enjoy the traditional culture and community. Our hosts made sure to provide everything we needed as quickly as they could. We highly recommend the waterfall trekking and the fresh fruit smoothies!

We loved the place, the house and the warmth of the people. Karien was always availble and answering our questions immediately, although she was on her honeymoon in Australia. Ji, who just lives next to the comfy and romantic barnhouse, was very kind and helpful. We have done a waterfall trekking with Ji, what was wonderful. He knows everybody (it seems so) in this area, so we chatted to so many people. We walked around in the little village on our own and the people living in the village are so nice and friendly. Ji's wife cooked for us dinner and a packed lunch, what was delicious. This place is fantastic and authentic. We would love to come back!

Very nice place with fantastic garden. We stayed in the converted rice barn for two nights with our family and we had a great time. We enjoyed the warm welcome we received from Karien and we simply loved the trek we made with Ji. In fact the trek with Ji will probably be one of the highlights of our holiday!

About the neighbourhood
The property is 8 km. from the sea, from Singaraja 5 km. uphill. They call that area the 'secret garden of Sambangan', full of tropical green and rice fields, with sea- and mountain view. Many of the people that live in the little hamlet Banjar Anyar still live as they did 20 years ago. Only the motorbike and cellphone make the difference.
Getting around
There is much to do and to see in the north of Bali. From diving/snorkling in the West near Menjangan Island and near Pemuteran to Lovina -till Singaraja, lots of activities are possible. Many beautiful trekking area and waterfalls, the deep canyon of Sambangan, adventure parks, hot spring, Buddhist temple, dolphin tour, cultural heritage, temples, tree top tour, botanical garden, canoëing, Balinese dance class, yoga, spa-treatments, cooking classes....
