Consistently rated among Scotland's prettiest villages, Plockton is a true 'gem' of a holiday destination that attracts yachtsmen, artists and tourists alike. The breath-taking views are sure to impress you from the moment you arrive in the National Trust village of Plockton. Gleaming white cottages bounce their reflection off the crystal clear waters that are fringed and protected by the majestic backdrop of the mountains in the distance and Duncraig Castle. The village has an incredible relaxed holiday vibe running through it where locals, visiting yachtsmen and holiday makers relax by the waters edge chatting about their days adventures over glass or two, whilst watching others have fun in their kayaks and boats. Decorated in a romantic Highland style, Craigview offers a warm Scottish welcome at any time of the year and is ideal for families, friends and also couples who enjoy having a little extra space around them. The cottage is well-equipped with everything needed to self-cater but for those who enjoy eating out, there are two very good pubs in the village serving the freshest of seafood, along with traditional entertainment some nights. There is also an excellent restaurant, Plockton Shores (pre-booking required as it is very popular, as are the pubs!), cafes and a village shop for provisions. There is plenty to do in and around the magical setting of Plockton. Take one of Calum's renowned seal trips (no seals no fee!), explore the waters edge with pretty deserted coral beaches along the way for a picnic, lace up your walking boots and discover the stunning landscape, or book on a kayaking expedition - a great way to see the wildlife (including seals basking off the tiny little islands that pepper Loch Carron's waters). For those who can tear themselves away from the beauty of Plockton's setting, there are plenty of attractions for day trips out within easy reach. Take a scenic drive to the Applecross Peninsula with stunning scenery enroute and glorious beaches to reward at the other end; check out Eilean Donan Castle, possibly Scotland's most romantic and certainly its most visited; and explore the numerous attractions of the Isle of Skye (the Skye bridge is only ten minutes drive from Plockton) including the Fairy Pools, the Quiraing (for stunning hill walks) and Talisker Distillery (for holiday gifts!). Whether you want to relax, kayak, sail, walk or explore, Plockton is sure to provide memories that will last a lifetime.More

We have just come back from a week in Plockton having stayed at the Craigview cottage. This was an idyllic 3 bedroom cottage over looking the loch and situated right in the middle of the local amenities (pub and restaurant). The weather for this time of year was very good having sunshine most days which has got to be unusual for this time in Scotland although the harbour having several palm trees was an indicator that this area has its own microclimate. The cottage itself was very clean and well equipped with everything you would expect to have at your own home. Booking for this cottage was very simple and the owner went out of his way to ensure that we had a great range of activities to work out an itinerary from. There were boat trips, train journeys, distillery tours and various other excursions available so no time to get bored. The cottage itself is located on the harbour right next door to a fabulous seafood restaurant apply named Plockton shores. There are also a couple of drinking establishments within 100mtrs so absolutely no taxis required!! Overall this was a fabulous bteak and the second time I have stayed at the Craigview cottage and it won’t be my last so I can’t recommend it enough. Thank you Plockton!

Lovely location, two out of the three pubs were open due to it being March but the chip shop does not open till April. Short walking distance from pub/restaurant and lovely friendly locals and food very good. The view from the bedroom window in the morning is stunning. Warm and comfortable stay in craigview

We had a lovely time staying at Craigview. It’s location right on the Main Street was ideal, with views over the water to the castle. The owner, Ken, was easy to communicate with and made sure we had everything we needed. I’d recommend this to others looking for somewhere to stay in Plockton.

Plockton is the most stunning place to stay and Craigview is perfectly located half way along the road by the lovely Loch. The village and it's surrounds can be easily explored on foot and the cottage is very well equipped and spacious. I would have given five stars but communications could have been easier.

This family/dog friendly cottage is very comfortable and incredibly well equipped. Situated in the main street of the very pretty village of Plockton with excellent views over the bay and close to local amenities. Will definitely return.

Stayed as a family (2 adults, 2 teens) over Christmas. Great central location in the gorgeous village of Plockton, to which we're pretty regular visitors. Good communication with lovely landlord. Well equipped with most bits you need (corkscrews, salt, oil, tinfoil). Shop next door for bits (though early morning deliveries were fairly noisy) and larger supermarket about 10 mins away in Kyle. Worth remembering that while you're situated beautifully on the main street opposite the waterfront, it is *the main street*. Without double glazing you can hear the conversation of everyone walking past at night, which did wake everyone up a few times. We stayed during a really cold snowy spell, so had the economy 7 heating on all day, which kept the house toasty. Perhaps that's why the storage heating in our bedrooms was so 'clicky' throughout the night. Sleep quality wasn't the best overall. I travel everywhere with my SUP and husband loves wild sea swimming, so being right opposite the water was perfect for us to nip in and out of the sea when we felt like it. Wifi (not super fast, but fine) and Smart TV with netflix were good for teens. All in all, an excellent base for exploring this stunning area.

About the neighbourhood
Known as 'The Jewel of The Highlands' the National Trust village of Plockton is among the most scenic areas of Scotland, its lochside location sheltered by mountain ranges and its waters warmed by the Gulf Stream. It makes an ideal base for exploring beautiful Wester Ross, Lochalsh and the Isle of Skye, which is just seven miles away and easily accessible by toll-free bridge. Facilities in nearby Kyle of Lochalsh include a sports centre with swimming pool and Jacuzzi while popular attractions such as Eilean Donan Castle are just ten miles from Plockton.
Getting around
While there are trains and taxis available from the village of Plockton in order to be able to appreciate the widespread natural beauty of Wester Ross, Lochalsh and the nearby Isle of Skye having use of a car would be the recommended method of getting around during your holiday. We have had guests, however, who have found sufficient local attractions nearby Plockton to have been able to walk or cycle to all of those without using their car at all.
