Our family of 10 (ages 4 months to 76 years) spent a wonderful week here on the Magothy River. We were somewhat high-maintenance guests, as we had questions before we arrived and problems with our boat once there. But John was prompt in replying to our questions and attentive to our needs in every way, yet giving us the peace and privacy we needed as a family. He really was a perfect host in every way.
The property is lovely. As the pictures show, the scenery is breathtaking, especially at sunrise and sunset, every bit as beautiful as sunrises and sunsets at ocean places we have visited. We cruised the river in the evening on water as smooth as glass and almost deserted of other boat traffic.
One family member is an avid fisherman and went fishing every day, catching perch that were delicious in the grand crab boil that he prepared for dinner one evening.
This property and its many resources offered some unusual opportunities for us, particularly the children. Our 8-year-old granddaughter really blossomed on this trip, finding new interests in crabbing, fishing, and kayaking, all things she had never done before.
We have rented many other properties and found this house to be particularly well equipped, providing many things that we typically had to bring: linens, soaps, cleaning sprays, hand sanitizer, dish pods. John really thought of everything!
One of the most important things to us as a family is being able to share meals as a group. The photo of the dining table makes it appear that only 4-6 can be seated at the table. But no worries! The table has a butterfly leaf system and a large window seat, thus easily enabling 10 people to be seated at the table.
The balcony in the master bedroom looks out onto the river, which enabled me to see sunrise in my jammies and then go back to bed for a few extra minutes! The beds are comfortable and we had no problems with sleeping arrangements. The full bunks are a bit odd and, unfortunately, unless you have a family of 4 willing to sleep off the master bedroom, the bunk room was not as functional as we might have liked. Small matter, though.
We spent many evenings on the porch, which, surprisingly, was not uncomfortable even in July because of two well-placed and very effective ceiling fans, also keeping down the bug population.
To summarize, this is an excellent property with a gorgeous location, plentiful activities, many amenities, and an attentive host. Thank you, John.
