Steeped in history, this property looked very different in the 19th century. One hunderd and seventy five years ago saw slipways and wooden vessels built on this property as this was the location of an age-of-sail shipyard. There's still lots for the amateur archaeologist to discover, from the blunted stumps of the slipway pilings where sailing vessels were launched to spikes and rusty tools buried in the soil.
The home was built in 2001 by Matthew and Valerie Mawhinney as a second home and convienent spring lobster fishing base as Matthew makes his living as a commercial fisherman.
We two couples had a wonderful stay at The Shipyard cottage. The owner, Valerie and her son Alex met us upon arrival and well explained the garbage plus information. The home was spotless, well laid out with perfect firm beds, high quality linens and a small but well stocked kitchen.
Matthew , her husband stopped by another day and was fun to talk to. This location is quiet, beautiful view of ithe water and inlet. It is 4 to 5 acres of solitude with the small town of St Martins 5 minutes away. The craftsmanship in the home is lovely . Having 4 kayaks available to use was a big plus when we had a sunny afternoon with tide in. The deck is perfect for relaxing if it's warm enough. Great home and great landlords!
