just a great place to kick back and relax
A perfect cottage on Lake Erie with a private beach. Stunning view from an oversized deck above the lake. You can swim a couple of hundred yards from shore and still stand with the water at only chest level. The water was in the mid 70's F. The air temperature was around 80 each day and no humidity. The low humidity is such a welcome relief when coming from St Louis in the summer. Plenty of wild life lives around the shore so it's excellent just to sit and watch the animals come and go. We were thrilled to see and American Bald Eagle fly at tree top level several times a day. Candace, the owner, has done a fabulous job with the cottage and it is loaded with antiques and all the amenities that you need. We had 11 people and never felt crowded. The master suite is unbelievable and boasts and 80 in TV, canopied bed and an on-suite. Each bedroom has it's own theme. Plenty of parking if you have visitors. Port Colborne is a busy port town and its fun to watch the different lake freighters come and go into the nearby Welland Canal. Although traffic may stop at one of the lift bridges, its a two minute drive to the next bridge to get across. We found an awesome ice cream stand in the local marina as well as a rooftop restaurant that overlooks the lake. Try the fish and chips. There is an incredible Farmers Market in town on Fridays. Parkers is a nearby bar/restaurant loaded with friendly local characters that like to talk about anything and bet on everything. Only 25 minutes to the Falls and not much further to Niagara on the Lake and a number of wineries. Crossing the bridge and customs was no more than a thirty minute delay on a July Sunday afternoon. During the week it took no more than 5 minutes if you have to run back to Buffalo for something. Candace is a great host and very easy to get hold of. Everything was in tip top shape.
