Take it easy and go for a stroll down the boreen. Swim at the pier, fish, cycle and socialize. All of this on your doorstep. Berties Cottage offers the best of Holiday Accommodation in Galway. Kinvara village is just a five minute drive away and offers a host of pubs, restaurants, cafes and a children's playground. There is a bus stop just outside the door which will bring you to Galway city, 20 mins journey. Swimming and boating down at the pier, walk or cycle to it. Groetjes Debby Smolders

"Bertie's Cottage" is a beautiful combination of tradition mixed with modern conveniences.
"Bertie's Cottage" ticks every box for a family holiday. The restoration of the cottage had to be a labour of love. It has been restored with all modern amenities, and yet everything that conjures up the past is there for you to enjoy from the thatched roof to the fireplace and beautiful gardens with old artefacts. Michael Coen, the owner was a pleasure to deal with, and nothing was any trouble to him. It is so central to The Burren, Co. Clare, Galway City with all it has to offer, and much more. We'll be making it an annual holiday. Thank you so much Michael. Kind Regards, Catherine, Michael & Family.

Charming 200 year old cottage
We stayed in this lovely cottage from 16th to 20th October 2021. Our host Michael was a friendly man and gave us a history of the cottage which he bought around 2014 and start renting in 2016. Very old world charm. Lots of beautiful antiques in it which give it a real lived-in " homely " feel. The location is excellent too as the bus stop is just outside the front door. On cottage side bus goes towards Kinvara and on to Clare. Far side of the road it brings you into Galway city which we did one of the days. We were lucky with the weather which was a real plus. Our host left us milk and a cake on our arrival which was a nice gesture. Thank you Michael. These in our opinion were all the pros of our trip. A few items did stand out however that we thought should be addressed in order to make things safer especially for families with children.
1. In the carpark adjoining the property there are various old world items. One being a turnip crush. This is a very heavy item and in our opinion should be bolted to the wall .
2. There are 2 steps going from the kitchen to the main living room and we would suggest a hand rail on the wall to assist person going down the steps.
3. Beside the outhouse which you can see from the back kitchen window there are galvanised steps going up towards the oil tanks. We think there should be a gate at these steps which can be locked. It's an accident waiting to happen.
We went there as a couple but we hope our host Michael takes our suggestions on board in a positive way. We really enjoyed our well needed rest in his cottage and hope he does take our suggestions in a positive way.

Great traditional thatched cottage
This is a great traditional thatched cottage in Galway. Ideal for smug selfies and a great base to explore Galway and the Cliffs of Moher. The host Michael was welcoming and obliging but not intrusive. Berties cottage is a treasure trove of memorabilia and provides the opportunity to step back in time, while providing ample parking and mod cons.

Beautiful, quaint and idyllic spot. Michael was a pleasure to deal with.
This beautiful place was a great base for travelling all around the Burren. It's a short journey to Bunratty folk park and very near the cliffs of Moher. Weather wasn't great but it didn't impact on our stay. Will definitely return!

Excellent
This was our 2nd stay in Bertie's Cottage and we had another great weekend in this fabulous thatch cottage. Ideally located for trips to Co Clare and into Galway city and Connemara. It is a beautifully refurbished 200 year old cottage with all the conveniences of modern life. Plenty of room for parking. In the village itself there is a church, pub, petrol station with a shop and a fast food outlet. There is a playground at the local GAA grounds. It is easy to find in Ballinderreen village on the main Kilcolgan to Kinvara road. We were met by the owner Michael who had milk in the fridge and cake on the table. Michael is very knowledgeable about the surrounding area of Clare and Galway. Will definitely be back.

Lovely place to stay!
We were delighted to stay at Bertie's Cottage, named for a friend of Michael's, the owner, who restored Bertie's childhood home. This two bedroom thatched cottage with an upstairs TV/Tech room was only 20 minutes from Galway city, and there were great local places to visit as well. We stayed here to get our ferry out of Doolin to the Aran Islands (Inishmore--fantastic--pony trap tour with Thomas Faherty), Connemara, where we went to the Connemara Marble Factory for a history of the formation of marble in Ireland and some fantastic jewelry!, Aran sweaters, Clifden and Kylemore Abbey, and Cong, the "Quiet Man" heart and soul. Anyway, there were ample clean towels, coffee and tea, a lovely fruit cake, and Michael was a charming host who was very accessible. We had the full Irish breakfast in the Merriman Hotel each day--great breakfast and stellar service. We enjoyed dinner at Keough's and The Pier Head, both recommended by Michael. I would gladly stay here again.
