Interaction with guestsWelcome to my home! Here, I enjoy being snuggled among the trees. I'm a university professor and researcher, so I'm fortunate to have the opportunity to escape from the demands and pressures of work in my own part of the "Peaceful side of the Smokies." This place is my get-away and I hope it will be yours as well. I fell in love with this area when I visited for the first time. I was determined to find my "dream home" here. There are not many places where you can enjoy natural beauty, peace, and privacy in a small community with such a large variety of escapes and explorations for anyone who loves outdoor adventures. This property gives you an "away from everything" experience; but is less than a 10 minute drive from most activities.

This is a beautiful cabin in the woods located just a mile from the Great Smokies. I've stayed here on several occasions and have always found the home to be clean, comfortable, cozy, and well maintained. There is nothing better than enjoying the morning (or afternoon or evening or night time!) in the hot tub on the wrap around deck watching the clouds roll over the mountaintops. It's then that you can see how the magnificent Smokies got their name. While the Tree House is located on the "quiet" side of the mountain, it's only a short trip to the attractions and activities in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. In addition to a wonderful and well- equipped home, there are short trails in the woods that children can enjoy and a fire circle outside that's ideal for a family gathering. The owner is friendly and responsive in a timely manner, willing to go the distance for her guests. I WILL be returning!

I don’t normally write reviews when my experience is just average or “as expected,” but this vacation rental deserves an exception. The Treehouse has become the traditional gathering spot for family over the New Year holiday, and we adore it! It is very spacious with an abundance of sleeping options and even THREE bathrooms, and the property is gorgeous and feels very private. It is surrounded by trees, with a view of the mountains in the distance from the hot tub, and lots of big porches and a big living room where you can settle in with a book, chat, watch a movie, or have a porch jam (if you’re musicians like we are). I also enjoy taking a quiet walk on the walking trails and counting the bird houses. I’ve stayed there five times now, and every time feels like “coming home.” The property is consistently immaculate, the furniture is comfortable and well maintained, and the kitchen is very spacious and well stocked with everything we have at home (and a few things that we don’t!). We enjoy Carin’s collection of root beer bottles over the kitchen cabinets and always try to find one to leave for her that isn’t already in her collection. 😊 Carin is extremely accessible whenever we’ve had questions and typically replies within minutes, and she is a very accommodating and gracious host. She is a genuinely nice person who obviously takes a lot of personal pride in her home and delights in creating a relaxing and enjoyable stay for her guests. My only regret is that I don’t live there, and she won’t sell it to me (I’ve asked!). I highly recommend The Treehouse — you’ll be very happy with this gorgeous, clean, and peaceful property in the Smoky Mountains.

You can totally ignore Twinkle Two's nasty review. We loved our stay at Townsend Treehouse just a couple of weeks ago. The home was spotless, all appliances were clean and in working order. In fact Townsend Treehouse is NOT your ordinary vacation rental, the furnishings and the appliances including the outdoor gas grill were all high quality like you would have in your own home. The outdoor gas grill appeared to be new and was clean! The kitchen is very well stocked with dishes and cooking utensils, better than expected. The refrigerator is top notch with ice and water dispenser in door. There are large flat screen TV's throughout the home and WIFI is free. Most rentals have only one bathroom, this home has THREE and they were all spotless. Twinkle Two mentioned poor beds and bedding. What a laugh, wait till you see the gorgeous master suite!! There are two wrap around verandas with spectacular views, hot tub and rocking chairs. I can"t say enough about how pleased we were with our stay. In fact we have already reserved the Townsend Treehouse for next year. It is hard to believe there are people like Twinkle Two who try to scam nice folks like the owner of this home. Carin was extremely nice and helpful to us and although we have never met in person, we consider her a friend.

Beautiful, charming, clean, well appointed... We have stayed at the Townsend Tree House many times over the years, and love the house and location so much that the owner has become a personal friend. The reviewer “Twinkletwo Essex“ is being both deceptive and vengeful - literally NOTHING said in that review is true. I would encourage anyone to compare it to the many highly rated amd completely satisfied reveiwers who have found the Tree House to be a slice of heaven in the woods. We found out from the owner that this person tried to scam bookings.com in order to stay for free. When that did not work, they waited until just past the deadline for the owner to report them as bad/dangerous renters- before posting this vengeful review. Because we have stayed there many, many times - I have hundreds of photographs showing just how remarkable the property is - WE LOVE IT! I am more than happy to share those or any other information with potential renters. The owner is incredibly sweet, generous and responsive amd does not deserve this kind of nastiness from an ugly person who is simply looking for a free ride, and then chooses to post a pack of lies when they don’t get one. You will not be disappointed in the least with this property

From the moment you drive up you can see that this property in neglected & poorly maintained. Once inside it gets much much worse. The whole place isnt just dirty, it is filthy. The windows are so dirty & smeared you can hardly see out of them. There were dead insects on the window sills that had obviously been there a long while. The inside of the oven was so dirty we didn't want to cook in it, so looked at cooking on the BBQ. This was also filthy, black and covered in grease inside, and had never seen a clean. We texted the owner requesting if she had a wire brush so that we could try to clean it up enough to use. She ignored our text. When deciding which of the bedrooms to use it was a tough choice as neither of the beds were good, both the mattresses had seen better days. However the downstairs room smelt of damp so we slept in the one upstairs, All the bedding was extremely creased, it had never seen an iron, and the sheets and the top cover had large stains on them. The towels supplied in the bathroom had also seen better days. There was no hanging space in the bedrooms, so we ended up just living out of our suitcase. In the kitchen , not only was the oven dirty, but the dishwasher was broken, the cupboard fronts were splashed with dirt and stains, and there were no proper glasses of any kind, just kilner jars with lids (Really at these prices!), Once again we texted the owner asking if she had any, and her reply was "there might be a couple of wine glasses in the cupboard, but I dont drink" There were not any, and in the end we went out and purchased proper glasses to use. All the floors were dirty and in the lounge area the table and the four side stools underneath it were covered in a thick layer of dust, so goodness knows what whoever is supposed to clean is doing. As for the bathrooms, the toilet brush and holder was gross. It had obviously never seen a clean. All night you can hear the pump running very noisily for the hot tub, which having seen the filth every where else we were not in a hurry to use. The noise is very intrusive and kept us awake. We asked the owner to get the pump turned off as you cant do it yourself. Not really in keeping with a holiday in the peaceful mountains we were expecting. We could not even sit outside and enjoy the views as the cushions on the outside furniture have been left out and are covered in mildew and animal faeces. The final insult is on the instructions regarding departure the list is endless but one of the things you are told to do is to strip the bed. Really! If you are staying at a friends house absolutely, but when you are paying extortionate prices for this dirty, poorly maintained property, I dont think so. We were so disappointed, we had already left early when this email came through. The owner has never acknowledged our complaints or made any recompense. This rental is vastly overpriced, but even it was cheaper, if you want to stay in clean, comfortable surroundings in the peace of the mountains, definitely stay somewhere else. If after reading this you are still in doubt about the condition of this rental I have photographic evidence of all these things and more. If you contact me through tripadvisor I am more than willing to provide them, but there is no option on this rental review to upload them.

I’m not sure what home this guest stayed in. This description certainly doesn’t accurately describe my home. You’ll see a review posted just days earlier from guests who stayed right after this one which supports my assertion that my home is spotless. All furniture in the living room areas is brand new. The bbq is brand new. There have only been 2 previous guests before this one since purchase of new furnishings. All mattress on all beds are 8 inch, less than a year old. And I did just begin renting my home in 2017. At that time I began to travel a lot and love sharing my home with others who love it as much as I do. I reported this guest for misconduct and banned him from future bookings. This man bullied me for several days while he was in my home because he couldn’t find my wine glasses. I want to believe he didn’t understand that he was renting a cabin in the woods in the Smoky Mountains. Regardless, he got a beautiful, well cared for home and 2+ acre wooded property with picnic area and fire pit, trails throughout. There are beautiful views, big wrap around decks with hot tub. (although he wanted the hot tub shut down while he was there). The kitchen has almost anything you could need (even a bread maker). See the reviews of two other guests; one stayed prior to this guy and one following. Both ratings were 10s. Guest 1 A comfortable and beautiful home with all of the amenities and space we needed. Everything was perfect as always! Only negative was that we couldn’t stay longer. Guest 2 Townsend Treehouse was absolutely great. Host made arrangements for us to arrive early and upon arrival everything was exactly as expected and more! The home is gorgeous. The two wrap around decks are to die for. The furniture was high quality and appeared to be new. The kitchen appliances are also top notch and worked flawlessly. The gas grill in the deck also looked new, was clean and cooked our steaks great! When we arrived the home was very clean, especially the kitchen and bathrooms. We have stayed in other short term rentals and were pleasantly surprised that the Townsend Treehouse kitchen was more than well stocked with dinnerware and cooking utensils. We were in Townsend for a gathering of cyclists and the hot tub on the deck was a life saver after long days of riding. Our host was readily available by text. There is a recent poor review from David and I called the host when I saw it before we traveled. The host assured me that that review was an anomaly. I can attest to that. He complained about uncomfortable cheap mattresses but we found very comfortable thick mattresses. The "dirty" conditions he cited were definitely not in evidence during our stay. We have already contacted the host about returning next year.

About the neighbourhood
Townsend is a wonderful place for people who enjoy the outdoors. An entrance to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park is located at the edge of town and its a short drive from there to Cades Cove (where people enjoy the opportunity to see lots of wildlife, including our beloved Black Bears). Tuckaleechee Caverns is an absolutely mesmerizing experience. There are places for horseback riding, tubing and rafting, fly fishing, hiking and biking, golfing and many more activities. Getting around
Townsend is a quaint, small town located on the quiet side of the Great Smoky Mountains. Many people enjoying biking through the area. A car ride through the National Park and Cades Cove is stunningly beautiful and the chance of getting a glimpse of our beloved black bears as well as other wildlife is great... but please be respectful and admire from a safe distance. Entry onto the Tail of the Dragon also is close by and many motorcyclists travel across the country for the chance to ride here!
