Beautiful secluded yet close to modern conveniences
Loved our stay here. Beautiful secluded property. 5 min drive to stores. Hiked Shenandoah, saw luray caverns and museums, luray zoo, enjoyed local restaurants. Be sure to remember your linens! I forgot bath mats and kitchen towels, but we faired just fine. Helpful hosts, and super clean! Highly recommend for small family.

AWESOME cabin and location - a review with some advice too!
I stayed at this property with my spouse and 2 children (ages 6 & 9) for 3 nights. We absolutely loved the cabin and all it had to offer on the property and surrounding areas. Some advice:
The owners sent the password right after my final payment so when vrbo sent me an email a few days before our stay that said "Here is your keys" it was blank and I never opened it. So, avoid having that panic in trying to locate your keys on email and check all the emails and make sure you save the correct one with the keys. Luckily the owner was very responsive and gave it to me over the phone, not their fault in the least, it was mine.
We choose not to rent linens and bring our own - make sure you bring plenty of hand towels, dish rags, and bedding - blankets and pillows were supplied but we like our own.
BUY water shoes! We bought a cheap pair and used them all weekend in the creek and at the rafting place down the street, Shenandoah River Outfitters, HIGHLY recommend the rafting, best part of our trip. Bring plenty of toilet paper and paper towels. The kitchen is very well stocked with pans/dishes. There is a small charcoal grill outside that we used, no propane grill. Having the laundry there was quite handy as we were traveling in the days before coming to the cabin and days after - we always seemed to be in some kind of water and needed to frequently wash clothing. The second bathroom is located downstairs and you access it from outside, we actually found this helpful as we spent most of our time outside. We are also used to all sharing a bathroom so it was not an issue for us. The land around the cabin is beautiful and the creek was right at a height that we could walk for long periods of time but also had deeper parts for fishing, wading, and some swimming. While I read many reviews about the noisy beds, we in fact absolutely LOVED it, best bed we had slept in for awhile. The couch in the living was heaven and our kids mostly fell asleep there. The cabin was cleaner than most we have stayed in. There is also plenty of shopping, restaurants, and stores within 10 - 20 minutes of the cabin which was helpful. We LOVED the Luray Caverns and recommend you go and spend a few hours there exploring. Overall this was a great location (even if there are neighbors it felt very private). I would highly recommend this place for couples and small families. There are a lot of steps into the cabin so would not be for anyone with mobility concerns.

Shenandoah
My husband and our two girls (5 and 9) stayed at the house. The house was clean and kept up. We came to the property in order to explore the National park. It is about a 40 minute drive to most of the kid friendly hikes near Sky Land Resort and Big Meadows is about 50 minutes. The drive is pleasant though. We loved going through Luray caverns as well. Back to the house…The girls had fun with the games downstairs and the hot tub was clean. For someone with mobility issues the stairs to the house would be a lot. Also the second bathroom (as other renters have mentioned) is downstairs. So really you have one bathroom for the family. The loft has two queen sized beds. My youngest had trouble sleeping in such an open space even with her sister and she has typically been an easy traveler so this was new for us. I just wanted to mention it in case someone with similar aged kids wanted to rent the home. The stairs to the loft are steep as well and when she would come downstairs to get me from the downstairs bedroom I worried she may slip and fall. Also, I’m a super light sleeper. I guess that comes with having two small kids. The cabin is in a very quiet location which I loved! However, each time the air unit came on to circulate I woke up. Eventually, by night 3, I was used to the sound and it didn’t bother me or maybe I was just wore out. The house is on the river with water views but I wouldn’t want to swim in that particular part of the river. The grass is mowed down for a walkway to the river, but I was concerned about snakes. It’s also shallow. Overall, we enjoyed our stay. Thank you for hosting us!

We had a wonderful time in a beautiful, comfortable cabin.
We really enjoyed staying at this cabin. It was in a wonderful location, close to many things. The cabin was beautifully decorated and comfortable. It was peaceful and quiet, the perfect spot to celebrate, unwind and relax with good friends. I would definitely stay here agajn.

Mother Goose Cabin
The Gander’s were excellent hosts and the property was very clean! The fishing is surprisingly good there….even directly behind the cabin! A superb place to relax and enjoy nature! The hot tub and beautiful views of the mountains and river was wonderful! I truly recommend this property as a vacation retreat and look forward to returning in the future!

Love the peaceful location.
While the weather didn’t cooperate this time, the property and house are beautiful. Not far from grocery stores. Not a lot of restaurants in Luray. Come here every year for the past 3 years. Maybe next year the weather will cooperate.

Relaxing
Property was great, not a whole lot to do in Luray. A very relaxing time. Caverns are amazingly beautiful
