Pissouri is a beautiful village on the south coast of Cyprus and is only a brief 30 minutes drive from Paphos (Pafos) airport. Its calm and tranquil location is little known by the average tourist, and perfect for those looking to relax and take it easy away from the crowds. This attractive village has retained its distinctive, traditional Cypriot character and it is the ideal place to discover the real culture that this wonderful island has to offer.
Originally a fishing village, Pissouri is also famed for its grapes. Vines cover the valleys and sun-soaked slopes leading down to the sea; lizards bask undisturbed on the sun-bleached rocks and butterflies flit between the typically Mediterranean vegetation of herbs, lemon, almond and olive groves.
Pissouri has two distinct communities – the sweeping arc of Pissouri bay (also known as Cape Aspro with its secluded sand and shale beach; and Pissouri village, just a short 3Km drive away, with its winding cobbled streets and typical red-roofed, whitewashed houses nestled in the hillside. In Pissouri village there are several shops, and many restaurants, bars and tavernas serving food and drink of exceptional quality. Spend lazy, sunkissed days swimming in the clear, sparkling azure sea and sunbathing on Pissouri beach. Sip a cold, refreshing Keo and watch the sunset over the bay in a beach bar then head into the village to a taverna to sample the local speciality mezze or delicious Kleftiko. In the high season, take an evening stroll to soak in the buzzing atmosphere and chance upon the lively street entertainment in the main square. Pissouri also boasts an amphitheatre where you can really soak in the Cypriot culture while watching traditional dances and or a play.
