As it's described, this studio is located on the top of the mountain in a safe and very quiet neighbourhood with a fantastic view of the valley, the city of Puntarenas, and the ocean. It's a gated property, which provides that little extra feeling of security. The property is clean and well manicured with loads of birds to see. Irene and Ted, the owners take great pride in their property and it shows. The infinity pool offers a great place to cool down and a fantastic view of the valley below. The sunsets really are as fantastic as the pictures show. The studio itself is new, and while modestly decorated, it includes all of the necessities such as a full-sized fridge, stove, microwave, TV, and free access to the wifi. The toilet, shower and sink are part of another room that is a large walk in closet with lots of place to store and hang clothes. Our price included daily cleaning, which we appreciated very much.
While there is bus service right out the door, we rented a car to get around. If you want to see the real Costa Rica the town of El Roble down the hill and Puntarenas are definitely it. We used this spot as a base of operation, and were able to travel to Manuel Antonio, Monteverde, and to many other places for day trips easily, but we like driving and seeing the countryside at our pace.
Ted and Irene live in Costa Rica part of the year and are extremely knowledgeable about places to see, how to get there, etc. They have some local contacts for tours also. We didn't use them, but might when we come back. They are very considerate owners that made sure we were comfortable and enjoying our visit. They can also point you to the best local restaurants, which are many! If you like seafood, you can get anything you want at the market in Puntarenas and at any of the restaurants.
We did not come for a beach vacation, but there are miles and miles of public beaches within 30 minutes, and we took advantage of them. Remember, this isn't the Caribbean - the sand is black - but still very soft.
We came during the dry season. We will definitely be back in November after the rainy season to see Costa Rica in its full splendor.
I would recommend this property to anyone looking to stay a few days or a few weeks. We stayed here a total of 14 days.
I'm writing this review as I sit drinking my fantastic Costa Rican coffee outside our room enjoying all of the birds the day before we leave.
