The en-suite bathroom is decorated with limestone and contrasting glass tiles and includes a walk-in shower, toilet and a feature washbasin. An unusual design detail, normally found only in 5-star hotels, is a switchable glass window to the bedroom which turns opaque at the touch of a button! The Bakehouse is detached and double-glazed throughout. Access is via a gate and the garden of Dean Incent's House. One free parking space is available and further parking on the street is available nearby. Berkhamsted station is 5 minutes' walk.More

The Bakehouse is a charming cottage, beautifully renovated to a high standard. It has everything you need when away from home. It is right in the centre of Berkhamstead but you wouldn't know it once inside the gardens of the property. Calm and peaceful yet only a stone's throw from the shops.

We recently stayed at The Bakehouse for 2 weeks and found it to be the perfect 'home from home'. The Bakehouse has a private location yet is conveniently located to the high street shops, restaurants and pubs. We loved the cosiness of the cottage with all the conveniences/appliances of home.

This has turned out to be a glorious place to stay. Astrid and Jeremy Biddle have created a beautiful haven right at the heart of Berkhamsted. It's arranged so well that it doesn't feel like you're in someone's back garden! Everything about the cottage has been meticulously and helpfully thought through, with excellent quality workmanship. Indeed everything in the cottage is high quality and in good order and enhances the sense of tranquility. Friends who've visited this week are as impressed as we are and busily thinking who they might also recommend it to. As well as the comprehensive charm of the cottage, it is superbly located for practical (and luxury!) shopping, for going out for a stroll, and for road and rail travel. Thumbs up on all counts.

The accommodation was first class in terms of comfort and quality, beautifully furnished and very well equipped. Located in a secluded garden very close to the vibrant centre of Berkhamsted. Very convenient for all the local facilities, shops, restaurants, railway station etc. The location is ideal for access to central London by train and by car to wide area of southern England.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this peaceful apartment. Because it's in the garden of historic Dean Incent's House it's hard to believe that you're in the center of Berkhamsted, but everything that Berkhamsted has to offer is close by - restaurants, shops, the station, canal walks, to name a few. The house is well appointed and comfortable to stay in, and Jeremy and Astrid were perfect hosts: there when needed and invisible when not! This is one of the nicest properties we've ever rented and I hope we are able to stay there again when we next visit Berkhamsted.

Our stay at the Bakehouse was relaxing from start to finish. Even arriving late Sunday afternoon, we found all the provisions for a nice cuppa and biscuits awaiting us. Berkhamsted is a village full of excellent places to eat, home to a funky cinema and close enough to London to visit, but far enough away to enjoy the slower pace of life. Not being the most up to date on the latest technology, there was a bit of a learning curve on how to use the cooker and telly, but all the appliance manuals were available to guide us through. Jeremy and Astrid were ready to help with advice when needed, but also gave us plenty of space to do things on our own.

This cottage is the perfect place to stay if you wish to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life yet close enough to the station and shops if you need. All within walking distance. The owners were so kind and helpful yet never intrusive of my time there. Perfect hosts. The cottage is set back from the high road and is surrounded by pretty well maintained gardens where there is benches and chairs to sit on if you choose. Inside is a treat with everything you need to feel at home. The kitchen area is well designed and has modern utensils which are easy to use. The living area has a comfortable sofa/sofa bed and there is an antique table with four chairs, so plenty of space to eat your meals. We ate in on many occasions, but also dined out as Berkhamsted has an eclectic range of restaurants to choose from! Upstairs is a delight, with a large and comfortable bed and a wonderfully large window that lets in loads of light, you can also safely stand here to admire the garden area. Ceiling beams add to the character of this beautiful room. There is ample drawer and cupboard space and plenty of clean linen and towels available to hand should you require them. The bathroom is fitted out in keeping with the character of the cottage. The powerful shower is a treat. I have to say that I never wanted to leave and cried all the way back to reality. If I could live there forever I would .

We stayed for two weeks at the Bakehouse and would highly recommend it. It is a lovely property and Jeremy and Astrid went out of their way to make sure we had everything we could possibly need! - The cottage is beautiful as is the garden around it - Very well laid out inside to maximise the space - Modern and easy kitchen with everything needed - Fantastic shower and bathroom - Very comfortable mattress! - Lovely location in the centre of Berkhamstead, but the garden setting means you really feel tucked away and there are fantastic walks 5 minutes from the property. Absolutely no negatives and a really lovely hosts.

I highly recommend this place. The owners were very helpful and always available if we needed anything or had any questions. I look forward to booking the Bakehouse whenever our friends and family come back to visit. Thanks for everything Jeremy (owner)
