We stayed at Browns Hill Apartment for three months in 2015 and for three months in 2017. Our daughter was 2 and 4 at the time. The apartment is basic but has everything we need. It's set back from the beachfront and away from other tourist hotels, so the experience of staying there is extremely peaceful and feels like authentic Sri Lanka. Sumedha, Kumari and family make it much like home from home.
The apartment is 5 min walk from Matara and Medawatta beaches, both have great surf spots. Matara market is 15 min walk. Generally still unspoilt area with much to explore - street life in Matara, croc safari on Matara river, Dondra lighthouse and fish market. Countless beaches in either direction.
We explored much of Sri Lanka but always loved returning to the apartment. Peacocks in the mornings, monkeys in the evening. Home made curry every day. We can't wait to return.
